Percocet while pregnant

I am 16 weeks and 5 days and I went to the ER on Sunday for a really bad shoulder injury. They made sure everything was ok with the baby and she was completely fine :) the doctor gave me 5mg percocet for pain as needed and told me it was safe to take as long as it was the recommended dose. Has anyone else taken this while pregnant?

When I had a hemorrhage on the baby at 9 weeks they gave me fentanyl and I'm 18 now. Going for gender scan tomorrow!

I called my ob and talked to my midwife and she said that it was fine to take as long as I wasn't taking it around the clock

I have not but the key element to your Perscription is "Take as Needed" meaning that just because you have it in hand, does not mean you HAVE to take it. Your Dr. wants you to have it on hand should you be in a lot of pain, but if you think your pain can be managed with an approved over the counter med. I would use that instead. During the day you can use heat pads or ice to treat pain naturally. Maybe take 1 percocet at night 1st and second night post injury to alliaviate pain to sleep.....I would try to get by without the percocet, or call your OBGYN for specifics on dose. The ER Dr. Looks in the pharmacology book and it says something like, safe in small doses in pregnancy, but your OBGYN office will be able to help you define further how much, how iften, and for how much pain you should use it. The OBGYN will also recommend an approperiate over the counter med too! So sorry about the shoulder injury. Get better soon
