I too am from Canada and my last pregnancy i had 2 ultrasounds which is normal. I cannot remember when i had the first one but i believe it was 7 to 8 weeks but i am prone to ovarian cysts so it may have been earlier for that reason and my second was around 20 weeks. They only do 2 where i am from unless they were unable to get the measurements they need if baby isnt cooperating or if you are high risk! I am about 8 weeks now and have my first doctors appointment next week and hopefully i get an ultrasound referral.
Thanks for all your replies. I was just wondering. Gee 18-22 weeks in Canada that does sound like forever! I'll just be patient..it's scary thinking that at 6 weeks your babies heart is now beating *eek*
I'm in Canada, and I was told because I'm low-risk the only ultrasound will be between 18-22 weeks, which is forever away. They do genetic testing in the first trimester, but even that is optional and offered again in the second trimester. So I guess it's all where you live, city/state/privince/territory general practices. All the American girls seem to be able to have unlimited untrasounds starting at very early on, but where I live they try to do at MOST 3 ultrasounds during the entire pregnancy, and only more than that if it's extremely high risk and they think it's necessary. So as much as it ***** waiting that long, edprcially when all the American girls are getting early ultrasounds, I'm sure it'll be worth the wait :) like one poster said, you'll be guaranteed a heartbeat and won't have to go through the worry of wondering if something's wrong because you didn't hear it like a lot of the early ultrasound mom's go through.
I think its better to wait to week 11 because sometimes you cant hear the heart beat or its hard for them to see the baby that early so you just worry for nothing..
U could always request from your gp for a private scan? I'm IVF and private and had one at 7w1d to assess viability
They always do them around week 10
