I'm 23 weeks today and we're having mine at 28 weeks to make sure I have enough time to get whatever else I need for baby.
My husband and his friends are extremely happy that they do not have to attend the shower. Some of them will be going fishing for the day though.

@ladypries just giving input. If you disagree, you don't have to follow it. But my intentions are to help and there's nothing wrong with me politely giving my opinion on a public forum.

I had 2 showers at 36 1/2 weeks and it felt too late to me.  I had fun and wasnt too uncomfortable but i had my little girl at 37 weeks so i barely had time to organize and wash all the gifts i received and finish the shopping for the things we still needed.  As far as coed showers i honestly like the women only ones better.  I get that the men should be included as it is a celebration but i quite Enjoy the women only as more labour stories and newborn stories are shared than when men are invited it seems to be. I liked hearing all the personal experiences from moms who have been there.  Men ended up talking sports and dont want to hear the women talking about how long they bleed post baby etc.  The men could do a diaper party where the men guests bring a pack of diapers then do what ever they want, watch sports go paintballing etc. That way they still have a get together and get to celebrate in their own way.  Just my experiences anyways.

Omg Karaelaine.... back off people who like throwing their own showers. Your comments, frankly, are tacky and a "no no" on etiquette. Smh.

I've read that between 28-35 weeks is ideal - that way you're sure to have a cute bump for pictures, but you're not pushing it too close to your due date. Traditionally, it is just girls, but IMO there's nothing wrong with including guys since the dad is having a baby too.

Also, I know this is a heated topic, but as far as etiquette is concerned, you shouldn't be hosting your own shower, since it's a gift giving event. A baby celebration barbecue, sip and see, etc., is fine, but hosting your own shower is a big no-no etiquette wise.

Its actually common to have coed these days. Mine will be coed, the dad should be able to celebrate as well. :-) we're doing ours about 6 weeks before our due date.
