breastfeeding

I want to breastfeed my baby but I'm nervous. With my oldest I was only able to BF for three weeks and had to stop. With my second son I was able to BF for six weeks before my milk dried up. I know the mistakes I made that contributed to my complications in the past (last time I strictly pumped because after we left the hospital one night my mother in law came to help and we have him a bottle so I could rest and he wouldn't latch after that) and I want eating/drinking enough. I want to breastfeed so bad with this one, I loved the bonding experience with my last two while I was able to BF. I'm just worried something will happen again that will prevent me from breastfeeding again.

I have the number of a lactation consultant this time and since my last was getting bottle fed breast milk I pumped every time he ate. Out of nowhere around six weeks I went from pumping 4 oz at a time from each breast to only getting 4oz in a 24 hour period. And after three days I couldn't even get that.

Make sure when your at the hospital talk to the lactation nurse. Talk about past/future concerns. Ask who U can contact if issues arise once baby is here. Don't give the baby a bottle until 3 months, if you can. That way the baby has the latch down. W bottles I preferred the Tommie Tippie I liked the nipple tip. Also make sure the nipple flow on the bottle is stage 1 or newborn, so the milk flow is slower like a boob. That way the baby knows if it gets the bottle it's not much different fr mommy. Babies usually prefer bottles because milk comes much easier. My 1st born NEVER took the bottle, that was hard bcuz I never came up for air (he was a BIG eater). Baby 2, was very easy took to nursing & bottle, back & forth easily. If you pump make sure your pumping as often as the baby will nurse (then U won't dry up), for at 1st if only pumping, pump every 2/3 hrs, 20 mins each breast. But don't pump then nurse or vice versa then the baby won't get what they need & will become discouraged. Look on Pinterest there are some great tips. Good luck and be patient!! :-)

All you can do is given it your best try right from the beginning and dont give up! You can take Mothers milk supplements to try to increase your supply if you need to.   I nursed my first until 14 months and hope to do around he same with this one.  Good luck!
