latching

My daughter has trouble latching on the right side. We fight for about a minute to get it together and then once she is on, I can only stand about 5 minutes of nursing because it starts to hurt. It's like the nipple is at an angle in her mouth, it always hurts at the bottom of the nipple. Any tips on how I can get her to latch properly?

I had that problem with the left side. I used a nipple shield for it and it eventually got better.

Try touching your nipple to her nose and dragging it into her mouth then before she closes her mouth get as much nipple in there as possible it will stop the pain and push her chin toward her breast it makes a world of a difference and get nipple cream I use medela natural it's safe for baby and it helped when my nipples were sore

Ugh I know the feeling. I have horrible pain during latching. Brings tears to my eyes and I get a bad taste in my mouth. Pain goes away after about a minute but latching is the worst! One thing that helped me make it a little better- one hand behind his head/neck and my other hand cupping my boob like I'm about to feed him a boob sandwich lol. My Boppy pillow really helped too.

I will try a nipple shield. For now I pump the right side and let her nurse the left. Thanks for the suggestions ya'll! Trying to EBF for the next 8 months. I only made it a month with my first baby, fingers crossed I stick with it this time!

I had latching problem, it coursed my nipples to split really bad and get infected so I've had to put my little fella on formula. I felt like a massive failure but I made the right call, he has to eat one way or the other.
