not sure what happens ftm

When my water breaks ill know rite? And when it breaks and there's no contractions does that mean don't go to hospital till I start getting contractions? Do we normally lose our mucus plug before water breaks?

I would ask what your doctor prefers. I am from canada and they say you have time to shower and finish packing your bag etc before Going to the hospital but they want the baby out within 24 hours of your water breaking.  Just an fyi: My water did not break and had to be broken at 8 cms with my first. Nor did i lose my mucus plug unless it happened in active labour while at the hospital.  So both of the labour signs i was looking for as a FTM i didnt get.

Im in ireland and they wouldnt send you home here if your waters break, could be different where you are but you should definetly ring your hospital when it happens and let them know or talk to your doctor or widwife on your next appointment about all this and they will advise you exactly what to do

It depends on how far gone you are. I'm from the UK so things work slightly differently here. Just get in touch with your hospital if that does happen and they will be able to advise you from there.

I agree with lurooney, if your waters break and your not having contractions (or if they break preterm) phone the hospital, they may need to monitor you as there is a risk of infection once your waters break.

Usually when your water breaks its a sudden gush so you will know but sometimes too you can leak slowly so just be weary of it coming closer to due date...some people have contractractions very soon after but some it could be hours later..with my last baby i didnt start having contractions til 5 hours after my water broke..personally i would go to straight away to the hospital when waters breaks just to be monitored but some wait
