They highly recommend you get this vaccine while you're pregnant because, as someone said, the antibodies are passed to baby. In this case the vaccine is not for you but for baby. I don't know why you wouldn't get it if it helps baby stay healthy before they can get the vaccine themselves.
tdap is tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis. It is recommended for you to get it while pregnant because the immunity transfers to some degree to the baby giving them more protection from the disease.
We have just had an 8 week old baby in Perth Australia die from whooping cough so there is massive debate over it here as to whether or not to get it. My obstertrician recommends all family and anyone with close contact to the baby gets it when ur in the third trimester and then the mum gets it when the baby is born... If you have had all your immunisations as a child then you have already passed on antibodies to your baby which is why they delay immunisations until they are 6 wks old
At one doctor I saw she told me that theyre seeing more doctors wanting to give this vaccine now and that at the time it was too early but that my new doctor would probably suggest me getting it. I asked at this doctor what they felt and they told me they dont really give it. it just depends on the doctor and if you want to receive it. I know they like for the parents to get it after baby is born though.
I'm planning to get it if my doctor will let me. Anything to help protect my baby and I'll do it.
Thank you ladies for ur responses
Tdap is a combo of drugs one is your tetanus shot booster and the other is the whooping cough vacancies just do your research some like them some dont
Have a safe and Blessed pregnancy everyone <3 :)
The doctors wont give me mine till after our baby is born while im in the hospital. The mother and father are suppose to get it so it slims the chances of our babies getting it. I would prefer you to get it after you have yalls babies. Because they have a reason on why they dont do it while pregnant and some places just dont agree on it I guess
I am not getting it done but that is because my husband had a terrible allergic reaction to it when he was young so we are always nervous if the baby will be like that. I didn't get it with my first but she did get it soon after birth and reacted fine. I will do the same with this baby
I have two kids ages 4 and 5 and they whole gettingthe tdap thing while pregnant is new bbecause they wouldn't offer it then. I am not getting it done because I feel like there is not enough research on how it may effect a fetus. I live in a area also where pertussis (whooping cough) isn't big. I just dont want it to chance having an ill effect on my baby.
I get mine done.. I have had to go thru 2 children get the whooping caught at 6 months then at 2 years I also adopted them that was a very hard time and lots of scarey moments so when I became prego I didn't want this little guy to ever get it so I went ahead and did it..I know it's every ones personal opinion. But that's what I did
