A big huge congrats on quitting smoking! I did it a couple of years before getting pregnant and yeah it's crazy stupid hard, so good on you girl.
You can definitely still exercise throughout pregnancy, you don't need to stop right away. Check with your doc, especially if the climate worries you, but running and cycling should both be fine until you start getting too big and uncomfortable! Horse riding I've never done so I won't give advice on that.
I personally did Xtend Barre, which is pretty full on cardio Pilates mixed with ballet, up to 34 weeks in my last pregnancy. The only modifications I had to make were no abs from 20 weeks on (bcos you can cause ab separation which ***** big time later on, bad for your back too) and being mindful to not push myself too hard or I might get dizzy or feel sick. I still sweated, and did all the squats and arm lifts and blah, and in so glad I did. That and pregnancy yoga I credit with bouncing back in weight, shape and energy pretty fast after giving birth (about 6 months I think was when I felt like myself physically again, aside from all the sleep deprivation of course).
Booze and smokes are the only things you need to quit, not exercise! You can try new, less cardio exercise too, and not just pregnancy focused stuff. Pilates is great but there's also weight lifting, body weight training, non contact social sport, swimming... You're pregnant, not an invalid ;)
Any other fit ladies out there want to share too? What did your doctors say about exercise? 34 weeks of Barre definitely helped me and was definitely not easy either!
I'm not finding the change in lifestyle hard per se, it's more making sure people don't notice the change. I have always said I really enjoy smoking, and the only thing that would make me give up is getting pregnant, so now I'm having one cigarette a day at work to keep up appearances (I'm not happy about it, smoking actually makes me feel ill now), and I'm still riding (lots of people keep riding, just don't fall :P )
Haha s ucks us apparently a swear here I'll have to remember that. Lol.
So good to hear I'm not the only one!! Think it will def get easier and I'm not missing the hangovers but it's definitely a big change that I thought would be easy but has been a bit of a shock. Luckily I'm not being sick or anything so really shouldn't complain...
I FEEL THE SAME! It's kinda driving me a bit mad. I'm a little over 5 weeks pregnant. I found out last week. So I immediately stopped drinking and smoking. Considering I use to do these things to relax after a long hard day... Now it's like I'm lost. I'm finding myself seeking comfort in food. I so dont wanna do that either. I know my little miracle will be so worth it. But. Damn... It's like "now what" I've got a load of time, and food, light excercise, tv, and googling the heck out of every little thing Is all I got now. HAha. I know it's sounds selfish, but it's def a learning and adapting process. Good luck ladies!
I found out I was pregnant last week I'm now 5 and half weeks with my first, like you I have given up and smoking and drinking, my partner is also trying to quit smoking but he didn't ever drink anyway, I've read that if you had regularly done sports/exercise before pregnancy you should try and continue with it I'm sure I read that you can continue to run/jog and cycle just make sure you taking enough fluids and don't tire yourself out to much or let yourself get overheated, I'm not really one for sports (lazy bum lol) but have been going mad with pregnancy research and they do encourage exercise whilst pregnant how about swimming or pregnancy yoga?
