Constipation

Blake has been a lot more constipated since starting solids. She still has bowel movements everyday, now she has like  3 or 4 a day, but they are hard pellets. She has started to cry when I wipe her bottom and today I noticed that her tooshie was bleeding!! Poor baby!! I guess  it is from the constipation or something like that. I am waiting for her pediatrician to come back from lunch so I can ask her what she thinks.

Anyone else have this going on with their little one???

Awww... what a mess!  Did the doctor suggest leaving her diaper off at times for the area to dry out?  If he didn't, you might want to try that too.  If it is a yeast infection, yeast grows in moist environments, so if you keep her diaper off that might ward off the infection growing.  Hope her tushy feels better soon!

Ok so here is the latest! Blake's bottom is AWFUL looking. It is the reddest tooshie I have ever seen. The dr told me to buy some "Corona Ointment" and told me to not freak out when I see it is for HORSES. haha So we are going to try that over the weekend and see if it helps.

The dr did say that it MIGHT be a yeast infection. Sometimes they can get them and they look just like a diaper rash. I don't think it is a yeast infection because she is constipated and when she does have a bm it just sits right there against her skin...but who knows. I will let ya know if  it ends up being a yeast infection! I didn't know they could get them this young!

We haven't had any problems with Mark yet, but whenever Micah as constipated as a baby I would feed him prunes, but pears work as well. From what I have read, fiber in a babies diet actually works opposite the way it does in ours and it makes them more constipated so I wouldn't up her fiber intake. Also, bananas will most definitely stop her up. When a baby has diarrhea you are supposed to add bananas to the diet.

The poor thing!

K thanks ladies. I am going to start giving her prune juice, my dr said not to dilute it though. I think I am going to stop adding the rice cereal to her bottles- or at least significantly cut back! I am also switching her morning cereal to organic multi grain cereal and add bananas to that.

Poor girl doesn't like having bowel problems!! :( She has only missed one day of her life pooping so she doesn't know what this is all about!

I was also told to let him soak in the tub, go without a diaper for a while  (if i was brave enough) and to load on the diaper cream to keep him soft around the anus

We have been dealing with constipation all along, and recently it has gotten extreme including him screaming during bowel movements and bleeding.
It can actually be a learned behavior. When they start having painful BM the learn to hold it in making it even worse
I give him water with prune nector everyday (1oz prune/3oz water)
The Dr had me start him on pears and peaches. Pears are extremly good for constipation.
yesterday it worked to good though, 3 runny poops.

Phin started having the same problem so I nipped it in the bud and have been adding a spoonful of prunes to his breakfast solids. That has helped soften everything up and he has been having normal BM since.

No, we are all good in that department :)  You may want to cut back or eliminate the cereal you put in her bottles.  Our pediatrician was saying that once we started Leighton on solids that they should help with her reflux.  Just the solids alone (we no longer put cereal in her bottle since starting solids) have dramatically reduced the reflux.  So, maybe try not putting cereal in her bottles anymore.  But, obviously see what your pedi. says.  Sorry that poor little baby has a sore bum :(
