Well, i'm a third time momma, and I am using my other kids doctor. But it's in a clinic with male and female doctors, so my daughter when they get older and need a female for the female stuff, they can use one. Their all covered by my insurance, so yeah.
but when I switch their doctors, I go to my insurance website, search for the area, and read up on all of the doctors, rate them, and set up appointments to meet them and see if I like them etc.
Good luck find your doctor, you'll want to find them soon! Really, get to know your doctor before you take your kid there!
Good idea! Thanks for the tip...it didn't even occour to me to start at the insurance end first......
I found a pediatrician. I called my insurance company and had them e-mail me their list of preferred pediatricians, and scoped them out online first. I live in Arizona and there is a public website for our state where you type in the doctor's name and any complaints, lawsuits, etc. will show up, as well as where the doctor obtained their education. (Yeah... I am a little psycho I guess! hahah)
So, I narrowed my list down from there. Then, I called each doctor and told them that I wanted to set up a consultation appointment. Be wary though... some doctor's will charge you for this meeting, which I think is a pretty slime ball move... so if they said they charged a fee, I knew that I didn't want this doctor to see my baby and didn't set up appointments with them. The meetings are great and really helpful. We ended up going with our friend's father as our pediatrician.
We don't have choice here. "IF" you are lucky and have a good GP, ths is who your baby sees. I am even luckier because my Dr's office is a teaching office and have often new Dr's starting after doing time with them. I "might" be able to have one of the overflow Dr's take my baby on. There is one Dr who have 2 young children herself, she's only working part time and basically she see patients who can't get into the husband/wife team. We are luckt that in our office we generally only have 1-2 week wait to see a Dr, others in this town have 6-8 weeks to see a Dr
We have a real shortage of Dr's here in Nova Scotia. i think you only get to see a peditrician if there is something wrong with your child. Many people don't have access to a family Dr...and if you don't like the one you have, well you're S#$T out of luck. There are some drawbacks to free healthcare
Sorry i got kinda off topis ;)
