Bringing Phin to doctor

Phin has been gasping every so often followed by coughing and choking. At first we thought that he was imitating our "surprised" sounds when we "find" him under a blankie and what-not but he is doing it regularly. So we called the Dr and we are bringing Phin to see him in a couple hours.

Part of me thinks we are being over cautious and the other part of me is scared out of my mind. Please send good thoughts in our direction and think of our little boy today. Thanks fellow Mommas.

Phin is ok. The Dr thinks that he is just trying to deal with the extrs drool that is starting to happen. So teething may be around the corner. So we paid $20 to hear that our kid just needs to learn to swallow his spit.....oi.

I was so relieved though as was Chris.

I am pretty sure my pediatrician thinks I am crazy...I call her so much! But we are responsible for these little lives!! It is a lot of pressure and so we need to do whatever it takes to make sure things are ok with them.

I actually have a scary freak out story from yesterday. I was eating lunch with one of my friends at Applebees and we were packing up to leave. So I am holding Blake and also doing something else and then somehow Blake lurched out of my arms and slammed the back of her on the corner of the table!!! She hit sooo hard that the back of my phone (which was lying on the table) actually popped off from her hitting the table. She screamed bloody murder (the silent 10 second scream followed by the awful loud scream) and she had a knot the size of a marble at the base of her skull by the soft part of her neck!! I freaked out. I tried to be calm and assess her and make sure she was conscious and checked her pupils and then I just lost it. I was crying like a baby at Applebees. :( Then I called my pediatrician and then took my baby to my bro's ER for him to assess her. She is fine (THANK GOD!) but still. It scared me to death. I was sooo heartbroken all day for hurting her. I slept like 3 hours that night...I was so worried still.

I will say that I am pretty sure Blake was doing the same thing (what Phin is doing) a few weeks ago. She got a cold following that and part of me wonders if she was trying to "clear" her throat. Also I wondered if it was due to extra drool from teething? She doesn't do it anymore. But I would freak out because she did it the most when I was driving somewhere with her and I was so scared she was choking or something and I would have to pull over to save her! Having a kid has made me a total nut job I am afraid.

Oh, Kele... I don't think you are being over cautious.  Better to be safe than sorry, right?

Leighton was born with a lazy eye lid and her pediatrician keeps telling us she will grow out of it.  Granted, it has gotten better, but I still felt that I should take her to a specialist.  I did and she concured with our pediatrician.  But, the point is... he is your baby and you have to protect him.

So, I think you are totally doing the right thing.  Please let us know what your doctor says.  Better to be paranoid and have nothing be wrong, than to not do anything and have something be wrong.  Crossing my fingers all is okay with Phin :)
