Outting them to bed awake

Ok sorry I guess I am post happy today----

So the dc told us to start putting Mady down awake, because sleep habits change at 6-9 months and it is easier to get them to this point now.  Mady had no problem going down awake for a few days, but hates it now, screams.  I tried the going back in, every 5 minutes patting her back and no talking, but it just doesn't work or I  can't handle it.

Those of you have done it, how long does it take?   Any good pointers?

We still sleep with Mark so he basically falls asleep nursing....

With Micah we transferred him to a crib at 8 months. He woke up for 2 nights crying, but after that he has slept for 12 hours a night... still does.I am a big fan of letting them learn to self soothe and "cry it out," but I seem to not be able to do it as well with little Mark as I did with Micah. I keep saying, "But he is only a little baby!" lol

I agree with the mobile thing...if he wakes up and sees it he doesn't go back to sleep...its how i get 20 minutes to shower though ;)

Carter actually wanted us to start putting him to bed awake...if we hold him he will start screaming and when we put him in the bed he stops, rolls to the side and ***** his soother or his crib sheet. Sometime if he is to awake we will put his aquarium on, the lights dim and music gets softer until it turns off and most of the time when i check on him he has rolled to the opposite side and is asleep

Same with us... we put her down drowsy for naps and at night.  Sometiimes she "talks" for a bit, and other times she goes right out.  But, there are occasions where she will cry.  So, we will go in and make sure she doesn't have a burp or a poopy diaper.  If she doesn't, then we put her right back down without talking to her.  Usually it is just that she wants attention.  She may cry, but it won't last longer than 5-10 minutes.  We usually go outside for a bit while she cries.  It is hard to listen to, but you have to remember that if you start them on healthy sleep habits now, when they are older they won't have any problems going to bed on their own.  So, in the long run we are doing them a favor by teaching them they can rely on themselves for things.

And, we are like Kele... no mobile except for if she is playing in her crib while I am cleaning.  It is too stimulating :)

We too have always put Phin down drowsy but not asleep. He gets his burp cloth (he loves to snuggle with that thing) and his plug and he basically soothes himself to sleep.

We can't have the mobile in at night...it would keep him awake forever!

We have always put Blake to bed awake because I didn't want her to get spoiled...some nights it is easier than other others!! I write this as I listen to her "talk" in her crib right now! haha (we got to bed late tonight..oops)

This is what we do:

We put her down in her crib, turn on her mobile if she is still wide awake, put a binky in her mouth and leave. She usually spits it out a couple times and cries so I go back in there and put it back and leave.

Good luck! I hope you guys find something that works.

Can't help you there!  We are terrible!  We're bottle feeders and rockers to complete sleep!  I'm not ready...I'm too afraid of the crying!!!!  Let me know what works when you do it!
