Pls recommend formula

OK - so I am deciding to lighten up on myself with the whole breast feeding thing. I'll feed her what I can, pump what I can and just supplement a little more .

So far I just buy the pre-made little 2 oz bottles - but I think it is time to upgrade.

Should we buy the powder? Pre-made? What kind?

Thanks!

I with amy also LOL My son is on Similac Alimentum because he is allergic to everything else, and I agree with amy I wouldnt go that route unless its absolutely necessary! Its the most expensive formula out there, I almost choked when I saw the price $26.99 a CAN (eww and it stinks so bad)!! Before though we were using similac sensitive.... I think there are tons of good formulas out there based on what the needs of your baby are....I hear tons of good things about Good start as well!

I keep a bottle of water out of the fridge and that is what is use! In AZ i will NOT drink the water...... I do have a bottle warmer though and I think I have used it only once or twice LOL I normally just give him a bottle at room temp!

i use the generic target brand form of similac advace early shield.  there is no difference between the brand name and store brand, plus you get like double the formula for half as much.

i am with amy... we just run the water until it is warm :)  and jem... iam right there with you!!

I use the Similac Advance Early Shield (the blue container).  I do buy it at Sam's so it's a much better deal.  We started with the Similac Organic which is pretty much the same except for the organic ingredients but more expensive.  I think the Enfamil and Similac are very similar.  I know people who have used both.

I just turn on the hot water and wait until it is barely warm and then fill my bottle..I don't know if that is good or not but it seems to work! I don't mess with boiling water and stuff like that. And I never microwave anything other than my sterilizer..

I used Similac Advance with EarlyShield as a supplement when I was breastfeeding..then I had to stop breastfeeding because Blake was allergic to everything and I switched to Similac Alimentum. My niece takes Alimentum for colic and my baby takes it because it is hypoallergenic...Alimentum is super expensive though. More than anything else out there so I don't recommend it unless it is necessary.
I liked Similac Advance with EarlyShield because it is everywhere. Sam's Club sells it in the 34 oz powder for only 27 dollars or so. (That is how much my Alimentum 16 oz powder can costs!) I wouldn't buy the pre-made stuff...first it is super expensive and it isn't any  better. It is just pre-made for convenience. The 2 oz bottles are for new babies..not intended to feed our hungry babies!

You guys really shouldn't feel guilty about stopping the breastfeeding. I am sure you will come across a couple people who will be jerks and try to make you feel bad but that is their problem and not yours. My niece was adopted and she never got breastmilk...and is fine. Also a couple of my friends didn't breastfeed or stopped within the first week and their babies are now 1 and 2 years old and they are super smart and none have allergies or asthma. You will love the freedom you get when you do decide to stop (whether that be today or in a year) and your boobs will shrink back down to a managable size (even though mine are definitely still bigger and I am completely dried up). Anyways my point is ...don't feel bad. You aren't a better or worse mom if you breastfeed or not so do what works with your life. :)

I use Enfamil lower iron formula , I had to switch because he was having stomach problems , alot of babies have a hard time with iron so this one has a little less. I got a great tip from the nurse in the hospital . Don't ever warm your bottle when you make it just keep it at room temperature . I have like 12 bottles then I boiling water for about 6 minutes , let it cool and fill all the bottles to 6 oz which is how mmuch he eats. Then thru the day I just pop in the powder and shake , no warming . I gotta say it is so easy .

Right now my formula use is for back up but I have a feeling in the coming months I might start using it more. I still have a huge guilt on my shoulders about not breast feeding. Hopefully those feelings will subside soon for me as well. Anyway, I use the Enfamil with Lipil formula. I bought a huge can of the powder that I use for home. I also bought a box of pre measured powder to use when I am out or traveling (I have used those a lot and they are wonderful). I am still only giving Jack 4oz of formula when I do feed it to him so the travel packs are great. I think the liquid would be wonderful as well but only for occasional use because they are probably pretty expensive comparatively.
