Has anyone else begun looking at furniture?  I guess, I just don't want to have to order a crib and it not be here by the time our little girl arrives!  (I have heard "horror" stories, and I don't want to be one of them!)

I am sooo confused on what to get.  We are looking to spend under $550 for a 3 in 1 crib.  I don't know why, but I am having a lot of trouble finding one that I like!  Everytime I find one that I like and I go home to read consumer reviews on it, they are negative.  So, I am now terrified of purchasing a crib and having it turn out to be "cheap".

Any insight on good brands would be wonderful... because as of tonight, I am thinking that I am going to have her just sleep on the floor!!  I'm about to give up my search!

Just thought that I would update anyone interested and let you all know that I FINALLY after a month of searching and pondering... a crib & dresser!!!  Whoooo hooo!!

We bought it at Aldrich Baby News... and we love it!  It is Munire from the Essex Collection.  We purchased the dark cherry (although it is more on the dark brown side, rather than red... we really didn't want "red" wood).  My husband put the crib together last night, and the dresser will arrive in a few weeks.

Now my empty room that has been empty for the past  year, has something in it!  Now, I need to get started on making the bedding :)

My little sister, who had her son in 2007, has given me absolutely everything. She had all the top of the line furniture & toys etc so I feel really lucky to get it. When I had my first son we bought everything and it got rather expensive- it is hard to know what you need vs what is not necessary. Plus it is hard to restrain yourself when you are "nesting" for that sweet new one to come!

We are buying my sister and brother-in-law's nursery furniture.  They bought it from Bassett.  It will be nice and cheap and get it off their hands too.  Everyone wins!

Laughing about your breast pump comment... I know!  We registered for the "$300" platinum breast pump (ok, maybe its not platinum, but you would think it was based on the price!)... our friends went to Maui with us this May and she brought hers with her and that thing is amazing!  It almost makes you want to breast feed, just so you can use it! hahaha...

We haven't started looking too intently at furniture yet. Once we know the sex then I will become more proactive. I ahve however, been concentrating on the bassinet. Due to space issues I have decided to buy a pack and play that doubles as a bassinet instead of buy both items separately. I figure if we end up ordering the furniture late the bassinet will suffice for the first few months anyway. I would also go with taking what the consumer reports has to say with some caution. I agree with kele there is always going to be something wrong with every item...at least in someone's eyes. When I read feed backs about a certain product I generally try to go on 2-3 different websites that provide customer feed back. Just to get a variety.

Good luck. I know this part can be overwhelming. I am feeling overwhelmed just walking into Babys R Us and looking at all the stuff these little critters need as well as the contraptions we need...a 300 dollar breast pump...geesh. Though I did see it in action and it is quite amazing.

I would definitely buy now! I ordered our crib from Storkland and it could take from 4-12 weeks to deliver...so I couldn't count on them being quick!  Also, if you are looking for a nice crib but maybe on a budget you could ask to see the store's dent and ding section. The salesperson showed us theirs and there were a lot of cribs that really had nothing wrong with them. A lot of the time they are cribs that are discontinued or were floor models. And the majority of those were convertible beds..

I was going to get a 3-1 but everytime i see one list (second hand) it always talks about there being chew marcks from when the baby ws teething. So, do i really want to spen that money and then have chew marks on the headboard. So now i'm thinking i might just go for a regualar crib. also styles change so  much over the years i think i might get sick of one, plus whne my baby moves to a big bed i want to beab;e to lay with then if they aren't feeling well, and iwth a toddler's bed you can't do that

we are using the crib that my DH and his siblings were in when they were little as well as most of our nieces and nephews. I haven't quite decided if I like it or not but it still meets all safety requirements and if we have it why not use it right?

I wouldn't take too much stock in customer reviews...there are people who could be handed a bar of gold and state that there is something wrong with it...

Don't you feel like we are so close and still so far away from holding our babies?
