I have gestational diabetes. First of all found it difficult with diet change but it's basically a healthy diet still have lil sweet things like sugar.free jelly n no added sugar.desserts. Hospital do monitor it closely I get a scan every 2 week's to check babys size and they don't like letting you go over due date b e questions ill try.help but fairly new to me
I eat 3 meals and 2 snacks a day. I limit my carb and sugar count. Protien for pbreakfast and if I eat a slice of pizza or soemthing like that I will eat a salad with it cause it helps to slow down the suagr from rising quickly.
Yeah I think you're right. I haven't been good lately...eating a lot of sweets and really need to cut back. I'm sure my eating habits lately have also been contributing to the lbs along with baby being all up in front. I was soo good up to my wedding and after but once I found out I was pregnant I feel like I've let myself go a little. What kind of plan are you on with your nutrionist? Do you eat smaller meals or 3 decent sized portions?
My high risk dr has a nutritionist on her office. Alot of people carry big and it has nothing to do with weight or baby, its just that the baby may be all up front. Great news about passing your test!!!
Just got my results this week and I passed my glucose test which is a relief. Belly is measuring fine. I still keep getting people asking me if I'm having twins or due a lot sooner than March 23rd. Its like they've never seen a short'er' person pregnant before! thinking about how my mutrition should be different. I started eating salmon again which I've been feeling guilty about since I'm a vegetarian, but have to keep telling myself its for the baby.
How are you all doing this week?
It's great that you are meeting with a nutritionist....something I definitely need to be doing. How did you go about finding a good one?
It is hard to cut the good, rather the not so good stuff out of our diet. I didn't have sweet cravings until late in my second trimester. I think that my husband needs to put a lock on all cabinets and the freezer to keep me on track! I have to remind myself that everything I am doing now is for the baby...go for the veggies and fruit instead of having starches and sugars. Sigh....
I passed my 3 hour, they say you need 2 levels to me high and I only had one level high, so I dont have to monitor or test my sugars, but I am meeting with a nutrionist to find ways to balance my diet for the last couple of months just to be safe. I go to 2 drs every 2 weeks at this point now anyway so they will be monitoring the babies weight an growth at this point so if they see she is getting to large they can always change my diet.
I hope you all are clear of GD as well. We all are giong through enough already and to have to cut out all the good food at this point would just be plain mean..lol.
Well better to be too thorough, I think. :) But then again I'm the type that worries about every little thing, so when the doctor isn't thorough or when they are too relaxed, I go nuts! :)
I am sitting in the waiting room to find out the results of the glucose test. That fruit punch drink was so strong/sweet...blah. So much for my weekend tradition of getting gelato. I think I'm sugar shocked!

Yah, sometimes I think to thorough. They are driving me nuts with all these different tests. Hehehe
Thanks ladies for letting me know when to stop eating.. wow...it was really tough to stop early as I often get late night cravings. Another cause of heartburn.
Lori-how did your test go? I hope well.
Cutter-sounds like your OB if very thorough which is wonderful.
My doctor is getting me to test my blood sugars at home on a home glucose monitor 3 days a week, 6-8 times a day. I am not doing the 3 hour glucose test. He feels it can be a false answer. Better to monitor it over the day and before and after meals.
My hemoglobin A1C was perfect. But he says your levels can fluctuate during the day. Also my mom, dad, grandmother and brother were all type 2 diabetics.
I think he is worrying for nothing. All my blood sugars have been awesome. And I have only gained 11.5 lbs and I am 27 weeks. But I guess it is better safe than sorry.
iWas just told not to eat the morning of my test. iAte passed 9 the day before-&still passed. Dont worry, gestational diabetes can be monitored
They say you need to stop at midnight the day before. I stopped at 9:30pm. Good luck with your test, I get my results of the 3 hour tomorrow.
I am due for my glucose test this week...so I can't yet respond to this post. I am nervous though! Not sure if weight is an indicator, but I went from my pre baby weight of 108lbs to 142. How many hours ahead did you have to fast?
