feeling down.

I'm having a hard time dealing with the news I got yesterday that my baby might be barely over 6lbs at birth. I made so many healthy changes for him and had a really great pregnancy until this week. I turned 38 weeks and Now I'm learning that my little man is barely larger than those in the tenth percentile. I eat really healthy, I don't smoke or use drugs, I excercized a lot up till this week when I was instructed to rest and I just can't shake the feeling that this is all my fault.  Has anyone dealt with this? Was baby still healthy? I know he'll gain once he's here I just feel so terrible about it all.

My daughter was born at 6 lbs 1 oz and perfectly healthy. She's now 3 1/2 yrs and 33 pounds. My girl will always be small as women in my family are as short as 4 ft 10 in.

Your  son should be fine, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Some babys are just tiny.

My son was born weighing 5.15 and was perfectly healthy and still is at almost 3.5 years old. He has always been below 5% for weight but around 80% on his height. Today he is 30lbs and 40in tall and Dr's arnt worried as long as he keeps making progress.

Thanks guys I really appreciate the feedback. His dad is tall and skinny and his bones and head are measuring just days behind. I was really concerned he wouldn't have enough meat on his bones for this Midwestern weather but your answers have really helped. Dr recommended some high fat foods and lots of protein so I'm keeping my head high:)

Just adding that they can't measure the baby accurately by doing an ultra sound. They are always widely off. Smaller babies can be healthy babies, so try to have faith and know that the measurements are not a good indication of babies actual size.

My last baby was 6 lbs 11oz at birth and we still call her peanut. She is 7 yrs old now, healthy as a horse, 3' 11", about 55 lbs and has a big head that runs on daddy's side.  No worries. She will be short like me.

My baby girl was 6 pounds and 12 ounces at birth. She was completely healthy and beautiful. Dont worry too much about it. 6 pounds is a good birth weight. Baby is still healthy:-)

My daughter was born at 6 lbs 3 oz. They checked her blood sugar every 4 or 6 hours. I can't remember which. They said she was a little small, but she is just fine. She is a happy, healthy,  25 lb,  23 month old now. Always been under 50 percent in height and weight with a small head. But seeing as how both my husband and I are only 5'3", we expected her to be small. We both were born even smaller and both are fine too. Some babies are just small. In the next couple weeks he might gain quite a bit or he might be small. Don't worry. The doctors might stress you out about it, but sometimes it just happens that way.
