weaning off anti-depressants

31 weeks today and I asked my doc if I could breastfeed on bupropion (wellbutrin generic) and she said probably best not. Then said that normally they taper off starting before the 3rd trimester with antidepressant and medicines similar. So "yeah why don't we do that". I was pissed! Why was this not brought to my attention over a month ago?! They had my med list and knew I was on it. So of course now I'm worried about side effects etc. And I know my hormones aren't helping but if anything is wrong with baby I will feel so guilty. I already do. Been crying ridiculously all afternoon. Sorry for the long post. Needed to vent and am freaking out a bit.

What were the withdrawal symptoms like? And I've started to taper off my dosage by what my doctor recommended and should be off of it completely in a little over a month. Thanks for the positivity:)

Hey there. I was on antidepressants and anxiety meds during and after my second pregnancy. I was never warned about the possible side effects. I breastfed. My son did go through withdrawals afterwards because I didn't know I could stop taking the meds. My son is a healthy 2 year old and hasn't had any problems. Your provider definitely should have advised you of all possible side effects of the medication that you're on. Just focus on your baby being healthy and how beautiful the moment you meet will be. It's not too late to do what you feel is best for you and your baby. Good luck and hang in there. Everything will be alright.

I do intend to talk to her. And I was told that the antidepressants were ok to take but I guess you shouldn't be on them during the 3rd trimester because of possible negative side effects. But yeah, no one told me that. And any research I did on my own didn't say anything about getting off of them by then. I'm a little calmer now but still frustrated. And ao far everything with baby has been good and normal so just hoping all will be fine. Thanks for your comment:)

First take a deep breath. Stressing can only make things worse. Do you see the same doctor for all of your appointments? If so you need to confront your doctor as to why this wasn't brought up when you first got pregnant. I am not sure of all the risks with taking antidepressants while pregnant but I can say if anything is wrong with baby because you have been on them then this is definitely on your doctor not you. If you knew it would possibly harm baby you would have stopped when you got pregnant. Good luck with everything :)
