The actual reason is that as baby grows, so does the uterus and although the baby is small the uterus expands pressing on our organs making room and readjusting them. When you lay on your back you are just adding more weight and pressure on your organs. The fact that our blood volume increases as does our demands for oxygen for ourselves and the baby. Start laying on your sides preferred left, so you do not restrict blood flow to the baby or clot.
Try to refrain from laying flat on your bag... The weight of your belly and breast can constrict you from breathing. Try laying on your left side for good blood flow and oxygen for you and your baby. If you choose to lay on your back be sure to prop yourself up with pillows.

Yes!! I'm 21 weeks and I am always short oc breath it seems!lol My ob said it's normal unless it gets out if hand! Trg not to panic but he said the worst could happen is a blood clot to the lungs. Most likely not though!
