Special needs

Is it normal to be worrying about whether my baby will end up having special needs or not?  My doctor said I could've had further testing but that there were a lot of false positives so the testing wouldn't be too accurate. So I ended up passing on the tests.   Now that my fall school semester is over I'm finding myself being worried that the baby will have some kind of birth defect or something. I have no reason to be thinking this way but I just wanted to know if anyone else is or has been concerned as well.

How did your 20 week scans go? Many issues such as Downs and other chromosomal issues and birth defects are caught then. What we won't know is if a baby has autism or is somewhere on the spectrum until they're born and grow a bit. I passed on the tests as well knowing the 20 week scan will tell us the same thing. Hope that helps a bit.

@flickan yes that helps. The 20 week scans went well, the doctor wasn't concerned about anything and basically told me the additional testing was pointless unless I would terminate the pregnancy pending the results. I just want to be sure that the baby will be healthy OR know what to expect if something is wrong,  ya know? So much to think about as it gets closer and closer to the due date!

You'll do great. Ear healthy and take your prenatal vitamins aND it should all be ok. I'm 37 and did you know at 35 the consider it a "geriatric pregnancy "?? That stigma scared me at first. This is my 2nd and all seems well.
