GRRR at OB's Office

Okay, I had my second OB appointment today after being released from the RE back in October.  I knew this visit wouldn't be anything special...just your typical OB appointment.  I peed in a cup, they checked my weight (which I have lost another 4lbs since my last appointment), my blood pressure, took blood because we are doing the downs and spina bifida screening, and we listened to the baby on the doppler...152bpm!  Well, doctor said we'd schedule an ultrasound to see how my baby is doing for next visit AFTER CHRISTMAS!!!!  So, I go to the check out counter and schedule my appointment...4-5 weeks is on the lab order.  We schedule it for January 7.  I'm thinking this is the BIG ultrasound.  NOPE!  I asked how many people I could bring because I know the grandparents-to-be will want to come and see.  Well, I am then informed that this is just a screening ultrasound and that we'll schedule the BIG ultrasound after that appointment.  WTF!?!?!  I'll be working on 21 weeks when I have this "screening" ultrasound and they could very well tell me what I'm having then...but no!  Why?  It's a good thing I'm having a scan on the side this Friday, because if not, I'd go crazy having to wait on my doctor's office.  They always do the BIG ultrasound around 20 weeks, so I'm not sure why they are treating me differently.

I know! GRRR. My Ins. covers all the U/S I want to a certain amount, & I am not close, But now I have to wait till Jan. which starts a new financial cycle, problem is it also uses delivery and everything out of this fund so I will end up going over, I think the big Anatomy scans are billed like $800. I only have 10,000. I'm sure a section delivery costs at least that! i just wanted all I could get done this year done, all the testing and stuff, but no.

My OB only does a u/s around 8 weeks to date the pregnancy and get a heartbeat and then another around 20 weeks for the anatomy scan to measure baby, etc.  WE are just spoiled from the RE's.

Well I'm PO'd at my OB office again! So they call this morning and cancel my U/S for 12/9, well ok I did find out the gender so I won't die or anything, but I was really looking forward to the measurements and stuff, we didn't do any diagnostic stuff at the spa, just gender. So I'm thinking Ok like a week or so NO try a MONTH! I was like what??? JANUARY 2nd??? I feel like my DR. should be more concearned with the progression of the pregnacy, I never even had a 12 week scan? Don't you usually get one to make sure everything is looking normal? GRRR!

** UPDATE **

I called back and spoke to a nurse that actually knows what is going on.  She said the 7th is the BIG ultrasound and doesn't know what that other nurse was talking about.  I will be close to 21 weeks and insurance only covers 2 ultrasounds and that will be my second, so of course this is the BIG ultrasound.  So, Jan 7 is my official date.  Good think for Friday though...the 7th seems like an eternity away!!!!

HMMM.... Thank goodness for Fri! I felt the same way with my OB, he has only done a quicky scan at 11 weeks just to look/hear HB. no measurements nothing, and he was in no hurry to get a good look to make sure things were fine! I think we get spoiled with our RE's b/c they are so pationate about us ya know, OB's have too many pts and not enough time, My last appt. he was triple booked for my time slot, I was so mad. I felt rushed and darn it I want his attention when I'm there. While he was with me his nurse busted in talking about the pt. next door, I was like excuse me!!!! MY TIME! LOL

I would bring the Fam. anyways, surely it will be a gender scan as well!
