Breastfeeding!? Does it get better?

Hi Ladies I just had my baby yesterday and so far I've been breastfeeding but goodness does it hurt! Does it hurt less the longer you do it? I started crying tonight because she was crying and wouldn't latch on. Also I was crying because it hurt, my csection incision hurt and its just overwhelming. I'm trying to stick out breast feeding but Idk if I can..

Thank you ladies. Yes I felt super disappointed and sad that I gave up so soon but I have a 4 year old as well. Its easier to tend to both by me bottle feeding. I'm still pumping so its not a total loss in my eyes. Thank you ladies for your kind words and encouragement.

Don't feel like you have failed if breast feeding isn't for you! My baby girl is 3 weeks old now and I just felt like she wasn't getting enough from me.. I cried and cried because I felt like I was failing her. We started pumping and doing bottles 3 days ago and I am still producing enough and she isn't near as fussy. But today I was just curious and tried to get her to latch on and she latched like it was nothing.. She struggled a little when she was first born so this made me feel so much better. Whatever you do it'll get better because whatever you do will be best for your baby (don't listen to people if they tell you otherwise...mommy always knows best).

Just thought id comment on this..my little girl is 16 days old and ive had to bottle feed her..my first i had no problems with and breastfed for 16months..this little one was tongue tied, which has now been snipped but its been the most horrendous time..i got mastitus and my nipples were bloody and ***** and not healing which had to be left completely to heal..i couldnt even pump and my milk supply dropped massively..i cried for the last 2 weeks and in the end after deciding as a single mum and thinking of the needs of my older daughter i needed to just give up and stop trying to force myself..i know its best to breastfeed..but i had no idea after my first how bad it could be!please dont beat yourself up if you have to bottlefeed..im sure our babies would rather have happy mummies :)

Thank you ladies for commenting. I started pumping and spoke to a lactation nurse as well but I was so overwhelmed I gave into a bottle for my baby. I know the benefits of breastfeeding but I also know it's not for everyone. :(

Have your pediatrician check for baby being tongue tied.  With #2 it was painful to feed because he coulf not move his tongue forward.  With new baby she failed yo develope her suck reflex completely and will have to send her to "suck training."

I'm three weeks in and it us getting better. Baby and I had a hard time once the milk came in. My breasts felt engorged and super tender! Don't know what I was expecting. Get a good pillow. Lanolin is awesome. Try reading about all the benefits and maybe it will help motivate! Good luck!

It gets better. I fed my first for 18 months and I'm into day 3 of my second child.

So I'm back at the beginning. Just make sure bub is latching on so he's not on the end. This will be really painful and be causing cracked and damage ect.

Your nipples harden up and breastfeeding won't hurt at all. The supply and demand gets sorted and they won't ache or swell.

Stick it out. Its sooo worth it..

Igs completly normal for the first week or so to hurt. If it continues to hurt the baby is not latching on correctly. I just had my 3rd baby a week ago and one of my
Nipples is cracked and scared and hurts so bald every time he latches the other one is fine.  Use the lanolin and let your Brest be exposed to the air as much as possible

You should see a lactation consultant, the hospital told me that it shouldn't hurt. The hospital should have given you some contacts for one and most even do house calls.

Yes I heard it's totally normal to be in pain. But it should get better quickly with the right help. Do you have a midwife to help you with latching on? don't give up before getting the right help and don't try to tackle it by yourself. Good luck!
