Cavity?!

Just had a cavity filled but it was to my knowledge that t it is perfectly safe to get fillings done while pregnant.. my fiance asked me if it was safe that they used numbing injections and I never thought to ask that! I am in my first trimester still and now I am terrified it could have hurt the baby. My tooth was badly infected and wouldn't take to the freezing so i had to get a few shots in the same place. Could I have harmed the baby doing this in first trimester? I am so worried... anybody else get this done this early and baby is okay??

By the way, I've been a dental assistant for 10 years so I do have some knowledge on dental procedures but of course its always good to check with your ob before you have any type of procedure done.

I suggest you talk to both your dentist & doctor.  Most likely, everything is fine, but hearing their professional answers will give you better peace of mind than those of us on the thread ever will.  Best wishes to you on a healthy pregnancy!

Its usually ok to get dental work done while pregnant.  Next time though, if you remember, ask them to use anesthesia that doesn't have any epinephrine in it.  Epinephrine can cause your heart rate to increase.  And of course nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is definitely off limits.

I'm sure the baby will be just fine! Just let your doctor know. Obviously being pregnant we have to be extra careful, but we don't have to live in a bubble either. Stay positive!
