Epidural or natural

This is my first pregnancy and I'm contemplating if it would be better to have an epidural or go natural. I hear people that have had an epidural say they wish they would've gone natural. When I would have my periods, the menstrual cramps would be so bad it'd make me sick. The pain was so severe that I couldn't even think or concentrate. To me menstrual cramps are the worst pain I've ever been in. And I've heard that labor pains are 100 times worse. I don't know if I could handle anymore pain than what I had when I had menstrual cramps.

I had an epidural with my last 2 pregnancies and I will have another one with this baby. I waited along time to get it with my first baby and it was so painful and they say it was probably worse since I was induced with both babies. It was so relaxing and calm after my epidural

Thanks y'all! I still have a little while to think about it. Knowing me I'll probably go into this thing undecided. Lol

I agree with Chelsilucky3 make the decision once you go into labo. Everyones threshold for pain is very different and I have the utmost respect for the women who do I just know my own limits. I had an epidural with my first and I will be electing to receive another for this baby. My epidural was good for me because I ended up needing an episiotomy and when they stitched me I didn't feel anything, which I heard hurts btw so after my baby was born the epidural wore off and I was good. Also depending on how your labor progresses you might not get an epidural right away which is what happened to me because you have to be a certain amount dilated. My sister in law progressed so fast that it was too late for an epidural and she pushed out a 10lb baby!!!! So if anything just be mentally prepared for it all that's what's best.

I didn't have an epidural with my first and I don't plan on having one with this baby either. Although I'm keeping an open mind. Personally I thought it was better not having one because the recovery time is much shorter. I was able to get up and walk around minutes after having my daughter. Also, I've read that the odds of tearing and pushing for longer periods of time are higher with an epidural because you're numb to your body's natural instincts to push down instead of out. I'm not saying getting an epidural is bad, that's just my opinion based on personal experience.

Luckily no decision you make is final. I say go in undecided and judge by how you feel when you go into labor. You have time to see of you can handle it. I've done it both ways and personally I will go with the epidural. I regret not having it with my first because I was exhausted and scattered and didn't enjoy the birth at all. There was only pain. My second was peaceful and beautiful because I wasn't screaming in agony. Everyone is different but I too have severe cramps and bleeding to the point I've had surgeries to try limiting the pain and bleeding and labor was a million times worse. I'm all for the epidural! But you chose buy how you feel you have time to decide when you start labor.

I am on baby #2. I decided after doing plenty of research that I do want the epidural. Every woman is different though! I want the epidural because I want to be relaxed enough to be able to concentrate on pushing. I don't have anything to prove to anyone, I had it during my first pregnancy and I had a fairly easy labor and delivery. I'm hoping that it will be the same this time. Good luck
