episiotomy

My baby is almost 8lb I'm scared of ripping. Not so much the ripping more so the stitches and soreness. I don't want to be cut or do I want to rip. My first was a little pea compared to this child. Anyone else have this concern?

I had an episiotomy and still had a 4th degree tear with my first - I didn't even realise what had happened - he was 9lbs 3oz - long and hard recovery but both wounds healed fine! I am anxious about tearing again but Dr's are convinced she's smaller! Fingers crossed. Good luck you will be fine.

with my daughter i tore..the stitches werent joyous but they numbed me and all you feel is pressure..it heals after and the stitches dissolved..most mums i know have torn with their births and all healed fine..im not looking forward to it..itd be nice if i didnt tear but itll be worth it for the baby :)

I had an episiotomy for my first. My doctor asked my permission first and I agreed. If she didn't ask I really don't think I would have known it was done. Lol. I healed up quickly and just fine. It hasn't effected me at all. :)
My Aunt ripped both ways for her second son and she said she healed up just fine.
No one wants to be cut or to rip but it happens sometimes. You'll be okay. :)
Goodluck Momma!

My doctor did one without saying anything but I feel he wouldn't have done it if he didn't feel absolute necessary. My first child was 5lb 12oz and i tore with her. This one was 8lbs 13oz. So i was going to be sewn up either way. Surprisingly my episiotomy doesn't hurt, I haven't had to use the tucks pads I got, the numbing spray from the hospital or any ice packs. It is a week and 1 day since i delivrred him. When I tore naturally with my daughter I was in so much pain and used every form or pain reliever I could..so i guess it really depends on the person and their body.. we will see how it heals over all at my 6 week check up.

I had an episiotomy with my daughter 3 years ago. It was done without my knowledge because she started to distress and her head was 34 cm! I had a terrible healing process afterward. It hurt do bad. I have a really thick scar still and if touched the wrong way still hurts to this day. Our sex life hasn't necessarily suffered but there are definitely things we can't do anymore that we used to enjoy.

My hospital still does episiotomies and though they say they are rare - my fiance's sister had her baby there and she got cut. But my birth plan is very much different than hers - no meds, and not laying on my back for sure. I am definitely pro-tearing before episiotomy but I also don't want to rip! I awkwardly tried to do the perineal massage and couldn't figure it out and it was so uncomfortable I will not try it again lol I do rub my coconut oil/avocado oil lotion on the surface of that area every other day though to hopefully promote better surface stretching

My hospital no longer performs episiotomies. Natural tearing heals way faster and healthier. not all women tear, and with those that do- some tear more than others. All part of the process!

The hospital I'm delivering at no longer cuts you they found the healing processes is much easier if you are going to tear to allow it to happen naturally. You can message with oils and help stretch which can help you not tear. It's very scary but I know my body can do it, atleast that's what I keep telling myself lol.

Im in the same boat. Ill be 39 weeks in 3 days and at my last appointment a week ago they told me she was already 8lbs 9oz. Were inducing at the end of this week if i cant get her to come on her own. Idk what else to do though. Ive walked and i even went for a prenatal massage that worked on the pressure points that have proven to speed things along but nothing yet. I heard ripping actuallu heals faster than being cut though. Not sure if thats true but thats what i heard.
