Labetalol & 7 1/2 weeks....

Hi all... any other moms here w/ high BP? I'm 27 yrs. old. I have chronic high BP, & am in my 2nd pregnancy. I didn't have high BP with my first child, it developed after having her. I am taking labetalol & have been ever since I found out. We recently had an ultrasound & the baby was measuring about 7 weeks w/ a heartbeat of 155. The doctor said everything looked normal. Any other moms here taking meds during pregnancy? I hate taking medication while pregnant, but I have no choice really. I have high BP & a fast heart rate w/ out the medicine. Thanks...

Hello I have a problem similar to yours. I had been on atenolol for give years due to palpitations I am 26 yrs. old and found out I'm about six weeks pregnant here recently. So my doctor switched me to Labetalol 100mg in the a.m. And 100mg p.m.  I like you can't be without it. My doctor said this medication is pretty safe. I think we should be ok. I took atenolol which is a category C and that was harmful to the baby and my doctor said my baby should be fine.  They will just monitor us to make sure our babys growth is normal throughout the pregnancy since betablockers cause babies to be born with low weights. The Dr. said the probability is pretty low. So stay calm we will be ok. :)
