Great advice....being a first time Mom some days Im like wow should I buy anything? Im not right now. Ive got several showers that are being planned right now....so honestly I think Im going to see what I get and then shop. But the idea w/the nite gown at late nite changes...is a real valid point. Thanks!
I looked at a review one woman said that the original one was too small so she went for the bundle me toddler. I am not sure which car seat she has though.
Bump....
Does anyone know if the JJ Cole Bundle Me fits the new larger Graco SafeSeats (up to 30lbs)? I know they fit the SnugRide (up to 22 lbs) but was unsure of the larger car seat.
OK. So maybe I'm a little out there but....here's my thoughts.
I never really used the plain white onesies and t-shirts/long sleeve shirts that much. Ocassionaly yes, but rarely.
My kids hated sleepers with feet. So I just by socks and sleepers without feet. Also, the gowns are LIFESAVERS at night when you don't feel like doing all those silly snaps half asleep.
I am going to buy 2 of those new HALO swaddle sleepers. They swaddle the baby easily, are convertible to sleep bags, and get this....they unzip from the bottom up to make changing easier.
I wouldn't buy receiving blankets. They're really not used that much. You'll probably get some at your shower. One or two nice, soft, cozy blankets are all you need.
1 sweater is plenty. Maybe a hat or two (really depends on the baby, one liked them, one hated it)
The hooded towels are great. Two should be good. Three would be great.
Snowsuits are also a waste of money. They tell you not to use them in carseats. I think the J J Cole "Bundle Me" or "Bundle Me Lite" is the way to go. That way the carseat straps are next to the baby and you don't have a big bunch of fabric between baby and straps (hazard).
My advice is to buy gowns, blanket sleepers, a couple of onesies, just the basics in newborn size. You really don't get out much those first couple of weeks and a lot of babies are out of newborn size really quick. I know several who never even wore that size. I also buy most of my newborn stuff used and then just wash it in Dreft. I've bought maybe, 2-3 gowns that are new and cute and a couple of sleep-n-plays and that's it for new stuff that's little bitty.
I'm buying now for 3-6, 6-9 & 12 months. Trying to buy stuff that could go either season. Try your local kids consignment shops (Kid to Kid, Once upon a child, etc). They are great for when they are little. Helps you save up the $$$ for when they are 2-3 and you have to go to Gymboree or some boutique to get really cute clothes.
Just my opinion. Hope it helps.
Now's a great time to buy ahead. I'm due Nov. 30 so I bought about 30 of the 6-9 month outfits at JC Penny's yesterday- Carters one pieces, etc. for $1.97 a piece! Can't beat that price when it comes to full price next summer. I also bought a couple of 12 month ones just in case he's big! Both of my other kiddos wore the exact size of their age so I'm assuming this one will too! Just remember for the first time moms that you go through 2-5 sleepers a day by the time you get peed and pooped on and peed through, etc. My best friend just had her 3rd boy and in the hopsital alone, went through 15 outfits in 2.5 days! He is a peeing machine!!! I'm buying about 5 newborn sleepers and then 10-15 0-3 month sleepers and then 3-6 gets a little harder because I don't know if it will be warm or cold SO, I've purchased about 5 of the Carter's terrycloth.cotton type sleepers that are a little thicker yet not the fleece. Winter babies do a LOT of the sleepers! I'm not buying him many outfits par say as we will probably only wear them to church and for pictures! Sleepers are the best in winter and so comfortable for them! (Now, let me add, if I was having a girl, she'd have a closet full of outfits!!! I'm so glad this one is a boy, it's saving me TONS of money - plus there's nothing like a little man!!! My daughter had 2 closets full of clothes before she was born- I couldn't quit buying!) Hope this helps, I think I did more rambling than anything!!
I bought a few newborn clothes/onesies because I have found the opposite than the above poster that most shower gifts are 3-6 months or beyond.
I am hesitant to buy too far ahead at this point...I have two nephews...one was always a size or two ahead of his age and the other one was always a size under his age. Just depends on their length and size.
I found this list out of the book, "what to expect for the first year". I probably will hold off on buying anything until after my shower. I may look at summer clothes for next year, like pmperez said, they are on sale. Anyway the list is similar to the one you have above and it noted that if you are going to do laundry every day opt for the minimum number, if you can only do it once a week, opt for the maximum number.
3-7 Under shirts (onesies - some long and short sleeved)
3-8 nightgowns with drawstring bottoms (easy access at night)
2-3 blanket sleepers
2-3 pairs of booties or socks
3-6 stretchies with feet
2 washable bibs
1-3 sweaters
1-3 hats
1 bunting or snowsuit with mittens attached for winter babies
3-6 receiving blankets
3 fitted sheets (for accidents)
2-3 terry cloth towels with hoods
2-3 wash cloths
3-4 waterproof pants, diaper covers, or diaper wraps (for cloth diapered babies)
They also have a list a BRU that you can print out..I havent bought that much n/b stuff just because I know thats what everyone will buy Ive been buying stuff 3-6months and some 6-9months....nows a good time to buy summer clothes, alot of them are going on sale.
