Worried!!!

I don't know if there are any docs out there or experts that answer questions in the forum, but I got to put my question or worries out there. I'm Due November 23, but hopefully will be induced on the 16th. I'm so worried about my kids and I catching swine flu this year. Looks like the very healthy and pregnant can die from this and I'm worried about it. I'm also worried about taking the new vaccine made of this type of flu. We always get the flu shot or flu mist every year, but now this year is different with the new flu going around. I live in the mid-atlantic area and have not heard much of swine flu in our school systems yet. Should I worry or stay calm? We are all planning on getting the seasonal flu shot in the next week or so.

It just scares me that this swine flu is different than the seasonal flu. I am planning on getting myself and all my kids the seasonal flu shot. I can't get it for another week though. I hope I don't run into anyone who has swine flu ever. Thanks everyone for your comments.

I agree with everyone on their answers, I personaly wouldnt take the swine vaccine,. but i did take the reg. flu vaccine as my ob/gyn highly recommended it. but i dont get sick to often like stef110 i can be around 5 people sick and not catch it. but this flu thing is pretty scary and everyone is right there is just not enough trials of the vaccine on pregnant woman for me to even consider to get the vaccine. thats my personal opinion. but to get an experts opinion when you go to the next ob/gyn appt. bring this up to her and see what she has to say about it.. Good Luck. :0)

Hi, I work in a doctors surgery and im exposed to alot of things I stay in scotland and the swine flu here is still pretty scary. I have decided not to take the vacine as I feel it's just too new and not enough trials on pregnant woman have been done for my liking. Also all the doctors in my work are NOT taking it either.  The best advice is wash hands regulary, avoid sick people and if you get a high temp take paracetamol asap. Although I can totally understand why you would want to take it, it's just not for me.

My husband works at a hospital, so he is exposed to lots of things there. Last november we had to go to a funeral out of state. I think he gave us all a bug because he didn't get sick. He said his immune system is probably better than ours because he works there. My husband is required to have the flu shot. We get it for our daughters also, but I haven't had it. I doubt I'll have any problems... numerous people have been sick at my job (retail) and I haven't gotten anything from them. They actually kept one of my coworkers out of work for almost a week because they thought she might have the swine flu. I had been around her the day before she went to the DR. I haven't had any symptoms of being sick. Just lots of heartburn... this baby will not be bald! lol.

yea.. there is probably no "right" answer to this.. but personally i will pass on the swine flu vaccine... last i heard ( i think a couple of nights ago) they still needed to do a little bit more research with pregnant people and the swine flu shot.. however they are also putting pregnant people as top priority to get the shot... I had already made up my mind that i was goign to pass- its just not worth the risk of a new, not very researched vaccine to my baby especially.. When i talked to my OB she also agreed..  but still thinks the regular flu shot shoudl be given (not the flu mist - since thats an active virus thats a no no in pregnant women - and fyi the flu mist has been making the kiddos i know have a fever and feel crummy for a few days afterward)   We do have the swine flu here.. and it does affect pregnant people esp in their third trimester prettty hard, so i am just avoiding ANYONE that may be sick and using hand sanitizer like a crazy person haha! GOOD LUCK! : )
