Ultrasound!

Hey everyone hope your all well :)
I'm 6 weeks pregnant today and had a meeting with my midwife today.
She's allowed me to have an early ultrasound at 8 weeks to put my mind at ease after having a miscarriage last year.
What can I expect? Is it standard abdominal ultrasound or this early on is it vaginal?
The heartbeat should be heard if all is going well right?
Thanks :)

Thanks guys :)
I agree heavenlyforever, I think an ultrasound at 8 weeks should be done all the time.
This is my first pregnancy really my miscarriage was in the very early days. Waiting til 12 weeks is horrible, I have mild symptoms and feel pregnant but just seeing that wee bean will be amazing confirmation

Hi. I'm 6 weeks today as well with #2.Im doing a midwife this time around too. I have no clue what to expect. But i was wondering why they dont give early ultrasounds??? i wanted one as well to make sure this one was measuring right but still didnt get one but probably cause i was only 5weeks. But with my first I was suppose to be 8 weeks but was only 6 and yes there was a heartbeat. It was done vaginal at my very first appointment with ob.
