Using medicine for a cold at almost 8 weeks preg?

I could really use some advice. I have a terrible cold right now, so I called my Obgyn. I was told I can use tylenol cold relief. Upon purchasing, I saw it has phenylephrine in it, which I've read online can be bad for the baby. I'm not sure if this info is really accurate or based from real research, but I've read it can decrease blood supply to the placenta and increase chances of birth defects. Has any mommies-to-be ever taken this medicine before while expecting? It's basically got me worried to take it now and I'm trying to fight though this awful sickness with no relief.

If you are maintaining a fever over 100 for more than a day, you should really see a doctor to ensure you don't get worse.  Being pregnant, you may have an elevated temperature to begin with, I went from averaging out at 96.7 to a 99, and I have never been that high on a normal basis.  I also developed a stuffy nose, and sneeze often, and I have no allergies.  I've also found myself to get tired easily, so for a while there I thought I was sick too.  I spent 3 days drinking theraflu tea, and when nothing changed, I switched to cold medecine.  I took one dose and got extremely nauseous, so I stopped immediately with all meds.  2 days later I found out I was pregnant and this was a normal bodily reaction.  Now I am always at a 98.7, which is still weird.  Regular acetomediphine will help if you do have a fever, but take it moderately, avoid ibuprofen.  If you are still in the double digits temperature wise, you should be ok, but if it is worrying you, see a doctor.

The physiologic processes in early fetal development, such as protein activity, are temperature sensitive, and the entire fetal development process hinges on the right proteins getting turned on at the right time. If your body goes from 98.6 degrees to 103 degrees, it could keep the proteins from working properly and cause you to have a miscarriage.

Thanks for your advice ladies, it helps! I'm trying a humidifier, cough drops, tea and honey, and I tried the neti pot tonight for the first time. I'd never heard of the neti pot before but a friend suggested it and it actually helped relieve some of the pressure. I'm sorry your sick amcbealian... I'd love nothing more than a Lil nyquil!

I am currently sick too. 9 weeks pregnant. I have been using vices vapor rub, cough drops, honey, humidifier and just straight up tylenol.  I really wish I could just take Nyquil...as trying to sleep at night is nearly impossible.
