Zofran

I have extremely nauseated daily for the past 2 weeks. I'm 7 weeks pregnant and I went to the Dr last week and my Dr prescribed Zofran. The problem is everytime I take this medicine, I see the commercial on TV that talks about Zofran causing some birth defects. Is anyone else taking this medicine or have heard these birth defects. Thanks!

Thanks ladies for all of your comments and personal experience. I am still dealing with the extreme nausea all day everyday. I don't take the Zofran unless I'm about to pass out bc I don't want to take anything that will hurt my baby. I am going to express these concerns with my Dr next week at my appointment. Thanks again. God bless you all.

I actually had the same conversation with my dr yesterday. He explained they are hesitant because it is a class b 1 drug. Means basically there have been cases reported but no studies conducted. He refused to give it to me and said to suck it up and stick with maxalon which is a class a. I had it with all three previous pregnancies and no issues but now im worried and wont take it.

b6 and ginger are better options. Also, do not drink 30 min before or after eating. Eat small meals at a time and avoid anything greasy, spicy, or overly processed. Fresh is best. Eat well before bedtime to ensure you don't get reflux at night. Take papaya enzymes for upset tummy to assist with digestion and keep on drinking a little at a time so you stay hydrated. Avoid only filtered water.. You do need minerals to prevent dehydration.

I was told by my doctor that there could be risks. I didn't wanna risk the effect of drugs so I take b6 pills and 300 mg of ginger capsules 3 times a day and it has mad a world of difference. I was so sick I was needing fluid in the ER for dehydration until I started this.

I'm 10 weeks prego and got morning sickness or should I say all day sickness lol. My mid wife had to put me on nausea medication and I chose to take reglan. It doesn't take the nausea all the way away but it helps you cope and not be at the toilet throwing up . the only bad thing is that you get drowsy but there no proof of birth defects. I was also told to take vitamin b 6 that might help you to :) best of luck to you God bless you and your little miracle :)

The defects that the lawyers are reporting are defects that occur in babies that the mothers have taken nothing at all. Just saying... sadly, defects happen& people look for something to blame.  . It's  similar to the choice to vaccinate.  Some claim the vaccines give their kids autism. Ultimately  is your choice. Do whatever you need to do to have a happy pregnancy. :)

I wouldn't take it. They're are other options I'd try.  Just because other women say nothing happened to their kids doesn't mean it can't happen.  They're many other families that this did affect.  I can guarantee IF anything happens to the babies of these moms, they would blame Zofran.  It's not worth the RISK! I  would be exactly like you.. Everyday worrying if the medication I'm taking us harming my baby.  You, your baby, your body does not need that stress.

I took zofran with my last 3 pregnancies and my kids are all just fine. I'm very sick with this pregnancy and my doctor tried to give me everything but zofran like reglan, diclegis, phenergen, etc and none of the worked so they put me back on zofran which helps only a little bit.

I took it throughout my first pregnancy, & my son is totally fine.  I asked about it this time,  & the nurse told me it's just the media blowing it up, & There is no study proving their claims. I'm taking it, a half tablet twice a day (they won't give me the melting ones) I cannot function without it.

I have read also that it can cause birth defects. Personally is rather be sick than take that chance.
