In Australia we have one at around 7 to 8 weeks if u dont know your last period or if you have had past problems. At 11 weeks we usually have a trans nuceal one which checks for birth defects. I have 4 wks to wait. A whole month...

Our hospital does one ultra sound at 20 weeks. That's it unless there is something wrong. They couldn't find our babies heart beat and I have been bleeding so we got one at 8 weeks. Sticks how much insurance runs our Healthcare.

I am due in November and know someone due in August.  We both had our first ultrasounds the same week.  I was 8 weeks 2 days. We are in different states so I think it just depends on where you are.

It really depends if your a private or public patient. If your public they only book you in for the "important" scans so it doesn't cost to much. However I hVs a private obstetrician and he does a scan for me every 4 weeks and later it will be reduced to 3aeeks, :2weeks and then weekly in the last few weeks.

In the UK they won't scan you until week 12-14 so that seems normal :) x

They do that because right now you baby looks like a blob not a baby and around 12 weeks you will be able to see an actual formed baby.

I totally agree. Way too late. I just found out that my 8 WK apt wasn't going to have an ultra sound and got a little upset and asked for one sooner. I get one Friday YAY.
Sometime dr offices try to limit ultra sounds to make insurance companies happy. But if you want one, ask for one. It shouldnt be a problem especially if you are willing to pay out of pocket if ins won't cover it
