Any ideas?

Hey all. Well I am now 29 weeks and am getting bigger by the day. Everything is going well though and am just about sorted for the big day.One question that i could do with some help with is this: I have been left about $600 by a relative who passed away a couple of months ago in order to buy a keepsake for the baby. If it was a girl I wouldn't have a problem but am struggling to think of anything for a boy (which I know that it is) I'm not allowed to invest the money, put it in a bank account or anything like that - just have to buy something that will remind him of the relative that he never got the chance to meet. Any ideas??

Thanks for all of the ideas everyone. It was my grandmother who died and even though she never knew I was pregnant at the time, (I found out that I was pregnant the same week she became ill) she left money for each of her great grandchildren and the rest of the family decided that mine should be included in that.I feel guilty everyday for never telling her so want to make this present something really special .

I think that if I were the relative, I'd like you to buy children's books with some of the money.  You can put her name on the covers with the date.  That way she'll be making him laugh, think, and learn all in her memory for many years.  Just a thought.

should the gift show that it is coming from that particular relative?

but, here's a way to "combine" a few things if so.....

you can do the pocket watch as marcus'mommy said, and go to a finer jewelry shop...they can inscribe it, and you can put her "dates" on it, with a "note" from her.....also, since any man can wear a pocket watch, and cufflinks, you could buy him cufflinks that will "match"(as in a watch and links that are gold/onyx wether white or yellow gold), and put them into one of those heavy keepsake boxes.....engrave the box with his name, links with his initials, and the watch with her "dates", that way later when he grows up, he knows that the set came from the aunt, and he can appreciate that even in passing, she was thinking of him.....

on things remembered . com   i found a watch for $50(plus engravement), sterling silver cufflinks for $50(plus engravement), leather wallet w/money clip(plate matches links) for $20(+engravement), and a "carbon fiber" valet(jewelry box/money box combo) for $40....oh and i personally don't know any men who don't like carbon fiber, as it's durable, and very longlasting!......well, above *i spent* $160, and you figure 10-20 for each piece of engraving, that's another 40-80.....600 is alot.....you could do the above for when he is an adult, and maybe the customizable blanket as something he could hand down to his own children(that way, somehow they could know the relative also).....

Check out Tiffany's website they have things like that.  You can get him a silver cup and spoon or one of those rattle toys.  These things are not for actual use, but more as keepsakes.  Also can be inscribed

Maybe a really nice pocket watch with an inscription on it... and when he is an adult he can have it for special moments... I wouldn't suggest allowing him to use it as a kid.  You can have it placed in a shadow box for now and hang in on the wall.
