Anyone ever tried Cator Oil to Induce labor?

I was just wondering if anyone has tried drinking castor oil to induce labor? I have been doing research on this and I am considering trying it if labor doesn't start on it's own soon. Just thought I would see what you ladies thought about it. I have heard a lot of good stories and then some that say that it doesn't do anything but make you have the runs. So I would love to hear your opinion about it.

Oh god don't do it!
I've been perminently SCARRED from Castor Oil stories. LOL
I'm 2 days over due now and I've been trying other things like walking, drinking LOTS of ice water, taking hot showers/baths, BDing, and putting alot of activities in my day that require me to be up n about on my feet for long amounts of time like shopping n what not.

Castor Oil I was told by many women, only give you MASSIVE cr@ps and for some, make you sicker than a dog.
lolol

That's one thing *I* won't be trying. lol

Well I did decide to try it last night. I mixed 2oz of castor oil with 6 oz of orange juice and drank that then about 15 min later I did it again. I took this around 6pm and had no signs until about 9:30. I had a few bowel movements and then some irregular contractions. I did not have any cramping or anything like that but I decided to go to bed and wok up around 12am with really bad pressure on my pelvic bone. I waited around to see if contractions would start but they never did, just had the pressure until baout 3am then that went away too. I don't know that it did any good for me. My bottom doesn't really hurt.LOL so I guess I didn't get that part to bad, but it did not do for me what I wanted it to. I go to the doctor today so I will see if maybe it made me dialate more though. I was already dialated 3.5 cm so maybe I will be close to a 4.5cm today. (I can just only hope , then maybe if I am my dr will just admit me) Wishful thinking!!!!!

I did read last night  (during my 3 hours of research) that if using the castor oil doesn't work as well if your body hasn't already started preparing for the birth. But I thought that maybe since I was 3.5 cm dialated and 50 % effaced that maybe it would help me....... But I guess I was wrong. But it will be fun to know how this works out for other people. If you try it let us know how it works for you!

I actually tried it yesterday.  It was pretty gross.  it's like drinking vegetable oil and it did not mix well at all with the o.j.   it didnt have a "taste" other than slimy.
I took 2oz which equals 1/4 of a cup with about 4 oz of O.J.

It started "working" about 2 hrs after i took it.

The only thing it did was give me bad diareaha (sp).  I had no cramping no discomfort. (other than my bum) sorry tmi.

My stomach was a little upset about an hour later but that could have also been because i hadnt eaten lunch yet.  after i ate i felt better.

If you do try it, clear your schedule and stay close to a bathroom

Good luck

Well, I have tried it and this is what it did for me. LOL. My best friend and I were prengant and due at the same time. We decided we were tired of being pregnant and did the Castor Oil thing. OMG it was sooo gross. We mixed it with OJ to offset the taste and really didn't know  what the heck we were doing  other than it was rumored to bring on labor. Well!

I was so constipated that it didn't work in the way I thought it would but I did get alot of relief in other ways, lol. Also, the oil does not mix well with OJ (doubt with anything). I ended up with oily lips and it just gagged me.

The idea is that it is to get your bowels moving so much that it triggers labor. I have heard of some using too much and actually continuing to move their bowels while delivering their LO's. I suggest talking to your OB about how much to use or ask around at least. Personally I will not do this again as it was more gross than productive in the way I thought it would be. My best friend and I delivered one week apart, exactly. It didn't work for either of us but we can both say we "bought the ticket and rode the ride" even if it was nasty.

I know what you mean though about wanting this pregnancy over because I am right there looking for ways to get the ball rolling. If you do this let us know how it works for you. It would be interesting to know who tried it and if it worked and if there are any aweful stories to go along with.

Good Luck!

Sue
