fetal movement and nutrition

hi.  i have 2 questions:

#1 i am 20 weeks along , and i have yet to feel any movement.  i am nervous that something might not be right.  is this normal?  should i have felt something by this point?  (it is my first pregnancy.)

#2 i am concerned about nutrition.  the majority of the time i get a lot of nutrients, protein, whole grains, etc...all the good stuff in my diet.  but i definitely have days when i binge eat or eat more junk than necessary.  i am taking a prenatal supplement as well.  how concerned should i be with the health of my baby?  i feel as though pregnancy means we should be perfect in terms of nutrition, and im definitely not.

thanks!  due 10/25/08

My ob/gyn has 4 children herself and said she never felt anything before 20 weeks, and even then it was inconsistent.  This is my second and now that I am almost 20 weeks I get very occasional flutters.  Plus, this is your first, so it will take longer for you to feel.  Don't worry about it at all.

As for nutrition, it sounds like you have a sense of what you should be eating and not just filling your day with empty calories.  But if you have one of those days where sweets or salts are just tasting so good, then go for it.  Just try to keep it in moderation, more so for your health.  The baby is going to take what it needs from you first, so a bad day here and there will not hurt your baby at all.  With my first I felt horrible guilt if I so much as ate a brownie, this time around I'm like, "I'll take a brownie and a cookie, thank you very much!"

Good luck!

Im 19 weeks 1 day and I started feeling the baby at a little over 16 weeks. BUT after my 16th week i felt nothing.. so i got worried and went to the ER in my 18th week. and they said that I shouldnt feel the baby move regularly or maybe even at all until im at least 20 weeks.  I had my 2nd doctors appt yesterday and when the doctor put the doppler to my belly we heard about 5 or 6 little thumps.. which meant that the baby was moving! and i felt nothing at all! my doctor said that I probably wont feel it move and be like "thats the baby" until im at least 22 to 23 weeks.  dont worry about it.  as long as you arent cramping or bleeding everything should be fine.  and the whole nutrition thing.  I know that your supposed to eat really healthy and stuff and I try to but somedays you just dont get enough time to eat 3 meals plus snack in between.  As long as you are eating and your baby is measuring up to size there should be nothing to worry about.. and prenatal vitamins help the baby get a lot of the vitamins and nutrients it needs, but shouldnt be supplemented for actual food nutrients.  I just try to pack like 3 to 4 granola bars, a cup of like baby carrots, and a cup of strawberries to bring to work with me because then i at least know im getting fruits veggies and fiber.  I make sure to drink a glass of milk in the morning too especially if i dont have time for breakfast.. Your growing appetite should help you realize when you need to eat and when you need more nutrients and stuff.

If this is your first pregnancy it may be a while before you realize it.  The baby is probably moving a lot by now you are just not aware of it.  I am 20 weeks to the day and just recently feeling the baby move but this is my second pregnancy and I know what to feel for.  So I wouldn't be too worried if I were you!!!
