I need some advice and just a place to vent

Ok so I had my 12 1/2 week scan today. The baby looked amazing and was moving so much! God is really amazing. If you've read my last post about "Chicken Pox" you'll know that I tested positive and went for a re-test. Well that came back positive to (even though I had it when I was younger). The doctor (not my own doctor) told me I should consider termination of the pregnancy. He said it so nonchalantly like it was no big deal. I wanted to punch him in the face. He also wants me to re-test again so they can send it to a California lab that specializes in this for $300.00. I am just lost and just want to cry. Termination is not an option for me and I just don't understand how I got this.

I don't know what to do.

Thank you everyone for your responses, I truly appreciate them.

kjbutcher - Whenever my mother has bloodwork done for some reason it comes up that she has the chicken pox. Some how it has just stayed in her system all these years. I am hoping this is the same for me. They have not given me meds becuase they said there is nothing they can do.

J_Mo- My faith in God is really helping me through this trying time. No matter what they find out with the baby I will NOT terminate. I don't know how anyone could terminate after seeing my baby move and rub her eyes and kick her feet. They told me I don't have to make a decision now because in the state of NJ I can terminate up to 24 weeks! Thats awful to me. I am meeting with my doctor, mother and BF on monday and will see what she says. I also have another doctor I can get a second opinion from.

wantbaby14-My doctor is hopeing its a lab error and wants to me to go to a special lab in Calif which specializes in this. She is not 100% I am infected with chicken pox. I'd really like to know if I am infected and if my baby is not so I can run out an abort so I am prepared when the baby comes. I am just trying to stay positive.

Dear nini,
I'm so so sorry that you are living this now when you ate supposed to be enjoying your baby. I've asked around to my friends about your situation and my advice to you is to get more information about this. What does your doctor say (I understand it was another doctor that gave you this news)? Why does this other doctor advice you to get another test? he's probably not 100% sure which is a good thing.
I think you should also consult another specialist, not because you might consider terminating the pregnancy but rather to be well informed of how can this affect your baby. I've also visited some french specialists websites and it seems that even if you were indeed with the Chicken Pox the risks of contaminating your baby are very low, talk to your doctor to confirm this info. It might be that the risk is so low you shouldn't worry so much.

I'm here if you need to talk or support.

take care
M

God is good and He will get you through this.  Termination is not an option and you are making the right decision froma Christian's point of view.  God will take care of you and your baby in His way and in His time.  You definately need to see a different doctor.  Go to a different clinic if you need to.  I am always here for you and will help you find any scripture to help you get through this.

I think chicken pox can stay in some peoples systems even if they dont have it.  i would hope if this is the case there is less of a chance of problems with baby.  have they given you any meds to cure it?  I had a friend who had shingles (form of chicken pox) while pregnant and they told her the same thing, to abort.  she did not and now has a healthy 9 yr old little girl.  I will keep you in my prayers!!  Stay positive and enjoy this pregnancy no matter what

I wouldn't abort either. Just see what happens! I don't understand how you can have chicken pox either, without symptoms or even spots.

Thanks Joanne. I am honestly just at a lost for words becuase I don't know how I got this, I have no symptoms, I tested postive 1 1/2 months ago and now I am still testing postive. How is that possible with no symptoms? I had no idea I even had the chicken pox until my doctor told me. I have had no contact with anyone who has it. I just have sooo many questions that no one can answer. Termination in not an option for me and I will love this baby no matter what happens. But it kills me becuase I don't know how this happened. I will get another u/s at 18 weeks. Hopefully this bloodwork will come back as a mistake. I can only trust in God at this point.

I just wanted to say I'm so sorry that you're having to deal with this.

If termination isn't an option then I guess all you can do is wait and see how things develop, even if termination was an option I think I'd still wait until the 20 wk ultrasound.  I was reading about it and they should be able to see better at the level ii ultrasound that we get at 20 wks. Doctors have been known to be wrong about things.

Stay strong,
Joanne
