Menu Monday

Hello my pregnant friends! Today is payday for us so I have to get groceries. Our cupboards and fridge are getting bare. I thought it'd be fun to ask a weekly question- WHAT IS ON THE MENU?! Since food is a very important part of a pregnant woman's life.

It can be what you have planned for the day or the week. So far I have no clue what I will plan.

I know I want salad. I'm craving this wonderful salad my MIL makes. She makes her own cesear dressing (without anchovie paste) and puts it over romaine with homemade croutons. *drooooool*
I'll probably buy yogurt and cottage cheese as well. And I have to have some turkey deli meat for my jalepenos! Mmmm!

Hey Joy, The dressing was soooo good and hit the spot! Thanks for that recipe! I think I put a little too much lemon in it, it seemed a bit tart, but other than that it was great! I will have to play around it and get it to right where I like it. =)

I was aware of the deli meat but thank you for looking out for me! It is scary that we cannot trust people to make our food healthfully and safely (like the peanut butter thing!!!) or that we don't know if what we eat next could potentially harm us. Chicken fajitas DO sound delicious. So does cheese tortellini.

I'm starting to feel nauseous in the sense that even the THOUGHT or the SMELL of certain foods makes me want to gag.

Chantal, let me know how the dressing is for you! If you're craving mustard you'll like the little "bite" and sourness the dressing has to it. YUMMY!

Thank you Joy!!! I think I am going to try it for lunch today. Sounds so good. I went out and got everything I need for a salad. =) We ended up having cheese tortellini, salad, and garlic bread last night. It was actually yummy! Then my SIL made these lemon bars that are out of this world!

about the deli-meat!!, when i went to the doctor they gave me a lil pamphlet about a bacteria that is in deli-meats (hot dogs, bologna, ham, turkey, etc.) it is called listeria and can cross over the placenta and can cause complications and even miscarriage.....not trying to freak you out or anything but they told me as long as you heat the meat until it is steaming then it is okay......this was the first time i had ever heard anything about it, but the FDA just recently found this out!! and about dinner chicken fajitas sound awesome right now!!

We ended up having McDonalds. By the time we got out of the grocery store it was almost 6pm (we eat dinner at 5pm) and the kids were going nuts. So we picked it up on the way home so the kiddos could eat while we put the groceries away. But I'm not complaining. I never eat it so it was kind of fun.

Unfortunately I didn't end up getting ANY produce while I was at the store because I went to Super Walmart and their produce is really nasty. It always rots really fast. So I'm either going to go to our local City Market or go to my other grocery store soon.

Chantal- you can totally have the dressing recipe.

1 egg yolk
1/4 Cup lemon juice
1 Tablespoon Dijon
Pinch of salt
Garlic (I do 1 wedge of garlic or 1-2 teaspoons)
3/4 Cup Olive Oil (I use extra virgin)

Just whisk it all together. Taste it and see how you like it. Add more lemon juice or olive oil or dijon to taste. It's SO GOOD! Then pour it over your already prepared Romaine (washed and ripped to bite size pieces- never use metal knives on lettuce) and toss the salad. Add your croutons.

My MIL takes bakery bread and puts it in the oven with some fat (like PAM or olive oil) so it gets nice and crispy. Then she cuts it into bite-sized croutons.

Gonna go to Frontera's tonight!!!! YAY!!!! It's my birthday dinner from my family! As for this week I don't know but what I'm so happy about is that I'm finally getting hungry and gaining some weight instead of losing weight like I was in the begining. Last night I ate my dinner around 7 then at 9 I was hungry again so I had jello and yogurt. NO not together. After that I got hungry again at 11 so I had hot chocolate with crackers. It was so funny cause it was like the baby was already here-eating every 2 hours. I'm noticing though that I can't eat too much but I love to eat a couple of times a day but small meals.
