I keep thinking what if the baby comes early so I went out and bought a cot at the weekend even though I shoudl wait for the sales at the end of the month!
I think its noraml for us to feel this way especially now were getting big and you do hear some awful stories but chantal is right a baby has a great chance of surviving after 24/25 weeks so that is reassuring. I wouldn't worry too much and just listen to what yor body says.
To answer your question a lot of the time noone really knows the reason althoguh some people are more prone to it than others. If it starts there are ways to stop it too so that is good to hear.
We just have to see what happens! :)
It is a scary thing. I have been experiencing a lot of contractions so I am on meds now to try to stop them from happening so often and I dilated to 1cm. I find out Thursday if everything has stayed the same. My doc found out I have BV and that can cause pre-term labor I hear, so they are treating that. But in most cases, it's unexplained as to why it happens. If you have an incompetent cervix, or a history of pre-term labor, it's more likely to occur. If you aren't having any symptoms or contractions, I wouldn't try to worry about it so much. I know it's hard not to though. But technology has come such a long way, that a baby born at 24 weeks has such a great chance at life now, so that is a positive for those who go through situations like that. Just enjoy your pregnancy! It will all work out.
I am in the same boat. My friend's water just broke 2 weeks ago at 29 weeks. She had her girl with an emergency c-section. The baby was only 2lbs and 8onces. She is so small but beautiful!!! They don't know why her water broke. I am terrified this will happen to me!! I don't think doctors have a set reason for preterm labor but I would love to know if they do.
