Contractions

Is it possible to not feel a contraction? My doctor told me to monitor my contractions but I'm unsure if it's one sometimes. There are times I really do feel them, which is a wierd feeling as if my stomach is really hard and a lot of pressure down there. Other times I don't feel anything until I put my hand on my stomach and it feels really hard. Are those considered contractions if I can't physically feel them? Also she told me to go into labor and delivery if I get more than 4 in an hour and I have gotten more than 4 in one hour but the hospital is a little over an hour away and I don't want to go and get sent back home. What is your opinion?

when your contractions don't hurt those are typically BH contractions.  I get them every so often.  BH contractions can either be un-noticeable for the most part or they can be painful.  This pregnancy I've had both, I get about 4 an hour or so and sometimes there really painful others I hardly notice it.

I'd say if your getting more than 4 an hour you should lay down and rest (or go for a walk if you were resting) and see if there is a chance.  My midwife told me more than 6 an hour is when I need to go to the hospital.  You might want to time them and see how they progress over the next hour and call before going to the hospital since your so far away.

You can get contractions and not feel them... however if you aren't feeling them and have felt other ones then they are most likely BH contractions. Real contractions will increase in pain and intensity as time goes on.
