Does checking for dilation make you dilate?

So I went to the dr today and they checked to see if I had dilated any and my dr said barely 1cm but my cervix was 100% ready.. I was having mild contractions earlier but nothing bad but now Im having them regular since my appt at 430pm..

Can I dilate because she checked me? and also since my cervix is ready?

Well I was having contractions all night and finally went to the hospital to get seen if anything was going on. Contractions were 5 minutes apart also.

They checked me and still 1cm! With all those contractions- They hooked me up to the fetal monitor and monitored my contractions and eventhough they were 5 minutes apart they sent me home and said to come back when they are 5 minutes apart but STRONG...

If your only 1 cm you most likely didn't get your membranes stripped because they typically need you to be 2 cm diolated.

Did you bleed at all after she checked you?  If not then chances are she didn't do anything that would cause you to diolate more.  You can diolate from some contractions or from how the baby's head is engaged as well.  At 35 weeks I was 1 cm when she first checked, then at 37 38 and 39 weeks I was only 2 cm, so checking really didn't make me diolate at all.

I have a friend that went into labour the next day after being checked for the first time for both her children. She thought it kinda jump started things for her but many women get checked and don't have anything happen.
Can they strip your membranes without asking or notifying you first?

Because it can irritate your cervix if can cause you to dilate a little more!

Oh, hopefully you go next. I don't think this baby's coming until my scheduled c-section which is scheduled for the 11th of Oct. so I have about a week and a half to go. Ugh!!!

It depends on how "aggressively" she checked you.  Sometimes they are kind of rough and that can trigger some activity.  If she stripped your membranes then it can definitely bring on labor.  They don't always explain that they are doing this either.  It's uncomfortable though, so you would've known something was different.
