How much weight gain?

So I was just wondering how much your babies have gained? I took my daughter to the doctor yesterday and she's weighing 10 lbs 3oz. and she'll be 6 weeks on Sunday. The doctor told me she is overweight and that I need to feed her less. Does that sound right?

My son weighed 7 lbs 1oz when we left the hospital and by his 2 month check up weighed just over 13lbs (Dr. said he was in the 86th percentile). He fit into his 3-6 month clothes by 2 months and now that he's 11 weeks old he's already outgrown the 3month clothes but my doc said he's just fine :)  So I'm sure your daughter is fine.

P.S. My son was gaining about a pound a week even though they're only "supposed" to gain 6 to 8 oz a week.

I took her in this week for a cold and she is 11 lbs. Doctor didn't mention anything about her weight any more. I am "boob" feeding her more so we'll see how that goes. Thanks girls so much for the reassurance that my daughter is not overweight!!

Oh my gosh....your baby can no way be gaining too much weight. I agree that you shouldn't cut down on what your baby already eats...that just sounds mean!! I can't believe a doc would say that.
My little guy will be 4 weeks next week and I'm excited to see what he's gained...he was 9lbs 3oz at birth and he's strictly on the boob too! He's got quite the double chin going on!

My daughter was born 7lbs 6.8 oz. She had her appt today and she is 5 weeks 3 days. Her weight today is 10lbs 10oz.

I dont think your daughter is overweight. Your dr telling you that and to feed her less is CRAZY!

I just read that your doctor said you baby was over weight?!!! WHAT? Never heard of that. When I was a baby I was REALLY FAT... I weighed 12lbs at 4 weeks!!! I was only 7lbs 3oz at birth so i gained weight very very fast, but as soon as I was active and crawling I lost all that baby fat and slimmed down. And I have always been skinny my whole life so I wouldn't worry about it. Hope everything is going well with your daughter. I have been demand feeding my son, he doesn't sleep too well at night but he's doing better.. sleping longer at least!

My son was 6lbs 7oz at birth, and now weighs 10lbs 5oz!!! He's gaining weight, that's for sure. He's strictly boob so no formula for him... he just eats a lot I guess.

My son weighed 9 lb 4 oz. at his 4 week appointment...he gained almost 2 lbs in that month.  They are not concerned by it but I also feel like my son wants to eat all the time!  They told me I could feed him on demand...I am using bottles.  I am trying to find the balance of what keeps him full but not TOO full and what will help him spit up less!!  I am pulling my hair out!  I feel like he'd eat all the time if we let him but he also is a horrible spitter and has some problems with gas/reflux i think....

I worry about the obesity thing too but I guess the drs aren't worried so I shouldn't be either!

Thanks girls for the reassurance. I was worried that my daughter would become obese (lol)... I have actually been breastfeeding. She finally accepted the boob so now I really don't know how much she is taking in. Also that has helped with her spitting up.

That doctor is a nut! My little guy was 7lbs 1oz at birth. At discharge he was 6lbs 6oz and at 5 weeks he was 11 pounds! Our doctor was happy to see that and said he will probably level off and slow down for a bit. Don't EVER try to decrease a babies feeding! They eat what they need- its biology!

I say your baby is doin fine!

Yeah, he told me I had to feed her less. He said 4 pounds in almost 6 weeks was too much. She is taking about 3-4 oz per feeding (every 3 hours) and he said that was too much for her. He said she should be taking about 2 oz per feeding and I told him she was still hungry and he said to give her the pacifier. I feel bad because I feel as if she is starving. I guess I'll feed her on demand instead of feeding her on a schedule.

babies don't overeat, that's insane!  Some babies just gain that fast and at 6 weeks it's too early to call the baby "fat"  From what my previous dr said about my older son if they jump up too much in the percentile that after 4 months or so of that it MIGHT be a concern but at this point I wouldn't worry too much.  I know several babies who gained like that and are perfectly healthy toddlers right now.  If you are too concerned get a second opinion.
