Still working?

I was wondering who out there is still working and how long they plan on working up until the baby comes.  I have a fairly physical job at the hospital and I am almost 37 weeks.  I was going to try to work 2 more weeks until the 8th of October and then I am scheduled to have the baby on the 11th via c-section.

I was doing fine but we are getting busier at work and I'm finding it very uncomfortable especially by the end of the week and I have been spending my evenings passed out on the couch!  I feel it's getting a little much but at the same time I dont want to sound like a wimp!  I'm considering finishing this week out and calling it good.  Any thoughts??

If I have a drs note I can take off if I need to.  But then I think it comes off the 12 weeks I get for family medical leave...not sure.  I have plenty of sick time but only allowed to use 8 weeks of it for the c section.  Rest has to be vacation or unpaid...i could have gone on disability but it didn't make sense financially...

Doesn't your state have laws regarding maternity leave? I live in California and I don't know if it's just my doctor (I think every doctor here in CA), but he told me that he would take me off of work at 36 weeks and I could apply for disability. Too bad I am not working right now. I know when I had my daughter I only got about 1 week off before I had her (she was born at 37 weeks). I'm sure there should be some sort of laws regarding maternity leave in your state. You should look into it!!

Well I am an Occupational Therapist on an inpatient floor so I am rarely sitting.  I'm usually bending down, standing up, gathering supplies and even doing some lifting on patients though I try to limit that.
Ready 4 Baby: Your Dr. won't take you off of work?  I am hoping mine will...I say its all up to how you feel!!!  Knowing the baby will be here the 11th I am now thinking that I really cud use that time to try to relax and get mjy final preparations around.  And I know what you mean about the cleaning....lol....

I wish I were out. When I go to the drs on Wednesday I'll try again otherwise I'm working until the day before my c-section. Its kinda stressful because I already have one at home and trying to get everything done before the baby is here is hard. Its too much stuff and my husband schedule is over night until the baby is here. I don't like the way he cleans because its really not cleaning....so it all me. :D

I'm working my normal 40 hours and I'm due on Oct 6th.  I do have a desk job (with some walking around, but nothing major).  Since my contractions got regular during the day and more intense I've started working half days in the office, go home to rest or go for a nice long walk, then finish up the last half of the day at home.  It's been very helpful as I find it's hard to sit at my desk all day, the chair isn't all that comfortable, I'll sit on a birthing ball at home.

I just turned 37 weeks Friday and I have 3 jobs. 1 I work at a daycare which I was done at on Friday. I also work at a clothing store and my last day there is next Saturday...so 1 more week to go. And I work with a boy that has Autism so I'll probably just work with him until next week too.

Thank you ladies...I will see how I feel at my next appointment.  I agree with you both.  And Vani: I am sure it's awful when you can't even escape! LOL...I think if you are home then you should MAKE yourself take time to relax.  The cleaning will still be there!!  I have to do all of mine on the weekend and it's rough...not nearly as particular about it as I would normally be...I just can't!!

Well I don't know if this is considered working, but I stay home and clean, cook and always have something to do, without being able to take a break! And not to mention, not getting paid for it... lol. I know how you feel. I too cry sometimes because I just want to get back to normal and not be pregnant anymore. It's at that point where I can't even sleep at night and I'm up all night tossing and turning. Sometimes I even have to put up with my daughter getting up at 2 am because she's not sleepy and she wants something every 10 minutes. I don't know If I can give up this job!!

If you give up and stop working earlier that doesn't make you a whimp. That makes you being pregnant and tired so if you feel you can no longer work, then don't work. I'm sure everyone will understand!!

I'm still working as well and working full time 40 hours a week. I'm due the 16th of October and plan on going to work up until I go into labor. But I know exactly what you mean. I just hit the 37 week and me getting up for work at 5am and getting home at 4pm and I'm just exhausted! I used to have so much energy and now I can barely make it and stay awake past 6pm or 7pm. I got home from work yesterday and was almost in tears telling my husband "I just want her to come out now" because my back was hurting so bad and my feet also.

It's a few more weeks so I am going to try and hang in there but if you decided to stop at the end of this week that doesn't make you a wimp. Being pregnant is alot of work!
