Like cocacolapanda said... the prescription vitamins have higher levels of each item. My primary care doctor said that the ones over the counter work just as well, but most don't contain as much iron and folic acid. I get my prescription covered, but before that, I used the plain old women's one a day with a added 800mg of folic acid.
i take vitafol which is a prescription .. i take and otc dha supplement from cvs.
My doctor first prescribed me with Gesticare DHA and the copay was $50 a mth which i also thought was high. I was gonna go with OTC but after speaking to the pharmacist she said with me being so early (I was 5 wks) the babys brain/heart and all imprtant organs are forming and she reccommend me to call my doctor and ask for a different script. I did that and she then prescribed Duet DHA when I went to pick it up the doctor filled the generic which was only $7.. Big difference...
They said its better to get a prescription so if you get one for as cheap as I did I'd say go for it :)
:)
im currently taking flintstone vitamins...2 a day is what my doc said i need...i cannot take prenatals because of my morning sickness...my doc says this is ok
the prescriptions have more stuff in them (or higher amounts), they are not the same, I've heard that from several pharmacist. $60 months supply seems a bit high, the ones I get are only $5.00 I believe, there the generic, but prescriptions. I'd go to the pharmacist and ask if there's a generic you could take, the generic's usually have the same stuff.
You should be a ble to get a prescription that is less than $60.
Not sure but I went to Costco and got a bottle of 100 for $4.99 and it has all the same thing in it as the Materna brand! I was hyped when I found them. $60 is a rip-off!!
