Brady's Here! Birth Story!

On Wednesday the 27th I went in the morning to get a non-stress test done at the hospital. The whole night before I was having contractions but was able to sleep through some. After my NST at the hospital, I swung by to see my midwife and she did another stretch and sweep. 5th one!! And stretched me to 5. Contractions got more intense afterward. Drove home and they were getting to the point when I had to stop what I was doing and focus more. Took a bath, took some gravol and tylenol to have a nap. That nap wasn't happening. DH and I sat and watched a movie (mostly him) while I had contractions and he timed them. They were going between 3 to 6 mins apart. Around 4 I was having them really close....2-3mins apart. I called my midwife and planned to meet her at the hospital at 5:30.
We got there and I was dialated to 6 and would dialate to 8 during a contraction and almost fully effaced. At first I sat on the bed and breathed through most of my contractions. Then then I got on my knees and laid over the back of the bed and that was a bit more comfortable to handle. At about 8 my midwife broke my water to see if it was clear and it got way intense after that. My contractions were on top of each other at this point. She offered me the gas as I was going through the transition phase because that phase is the hardest. She was right...it was! I didn't take it. No one offered me the epidural...they knew I didn't want it. They were really encouraging as I was breathing through them and trying to not tense up. After that my midwife asked me to go on the toilet and pee and push for the first time. Pushing felt sooooo much better during a contraction at that point. I went back to the bed and hung off the back and when she checked I just had a lip of cervix and during a contraction and me pushing a bit she tried to push it away. It worked and I was able to lay down and start pushing. Everything went by so quickly. I did not push very long because he arrived at 9:14pm. He weighed 9lbs 3oz and he's 22inches long! He is perfect!
I was soo happy I did it without any drugs! He was very alert right from the start! It's quite empowering. I think the worst part for me is that I tore a couple spots on the inside of my wall and labia and it took my midwife about 2 hrs to stitch me! I was so tired and didn't want to have my legs up for so long but she wanted to get it right and not have "pockets" she said. I'm very sore now but dealing!
He's feeding like a champ from whatever he's getting so far and everyone is super excited!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!

Congratualations my friend!  What a wonderful birth story, and you are right - he's perfect!  Love at first sight indeed!

Take care of yourself, (especially those stitches... spray bottle is going to be your best friend) and love your baby boy to pieces.  Rest when you can and adore him forever.

One of these days we can get together - we don't live that far away!

XOXO
Sandi  :)
