Electronic cigarettes?

I am seeking some advice. I am unfortunately a smoker and 29 weeks 4 days pregnant. Lately I have been craving nicotine really bad. At the beginning of my pregnancy I cut back to 1/4 - 1/2 a pack a day, now I'm smoking 1/2 - 3/4 a pack to sometimes a whole pack a day. I'm thinking about electronic cigarettes, the ones where u can ween down from nicotine. Does anyone have any advice or knowledge on the electronic cigarettes or any advice on what I can do to help cut back. I'd like to get to a point where I can breastfeed. Please no negative comments on how I shouldn't be smoking. Thank you in advance for any input.

I use an e-cigarette now, I was down to about a 1/4 pack for a long time. I am hoping to quit from that before my baby comes but it does seem to curb the desire for a regular cigarette. I tried rolling my own but they made me feel more sick than a regular one. A lot of the time it does take the will power to say no to a cigarette, staying busy or being places you can't smoke seems to help me as well.

Consider rolling your own with real tobacco. It's cheaper and cleaner and a pain in the butt so maybe it'll help you not want to smoke. Ause you'll have to roll them every time you want them. Or have sit down sessions and roll a ton at a time. Everyone I know who rolls their own smokes less even cause its real tobacco and not diluted with all the other crap(to some degree) and they hate rolling them so it slows them down. Just an idea

The problem with e-cigs is that there is no real way of knowing how much you're smoking compared to standard cigarettes and how much nicotine you're taking in. You may well end up taking in twice as much nicotine albeit without the smoke, tar and chemicals of standard cigarettes. Best thing is to really try and quit...get some professional help here to get you through it. It's hard but you can do it and it wil be so much better for you and your baby when you do kick the habit.

From what I've heard and seen from friends/family, if you're going to do one or the other, Ecigs are most certainly better than regular cigarettes since you don't get all the other chemicals.  You can adjust the levels of nicotine you get and I have several friends who were actually able to quit entirely.

I agree with the above commenter that there hasn't been much study on their use during pregnancy, but like I said, dealing with one chemical (nicotine) has to be a better option than all the yucks that are in regular cigarettes!  I would give it a try! A bit more expensive, but probably worth it.

My boyfriend quit smoking when I got knocked up and he used nicotine gum. It was hard but after a couple of weeks he wasn't chewing it on a regular basis anymore, just on stressful days.  He's stuck to it,  February 19th was his last cigarette. I know you can do it if you want to.

They haven't studied the effects of those on pregnancy/bf-ing, or on anyone really, so there's no way to know about their safety.  Good luck,  chica!
