I am due oct 25 i live in a 2nd floor one bedroom flat with my partner. We have recently rehomed a dog (english bullterrior) he has been around children and newborns before. We have rehomed him from my partners ex as she was threatening to get rid of him. But now im worried how i will cope with a newborn and a dog. Anyone any tips and advice on how they managed or introduced baby to the dog? I love the dog to bits and would rather he wasnt rehomed again.. please help x

I have three dogs, and already working on getting them used to the baby stuff that I've purchased.  Petty sure they all know something is up especially my female is so much gentler now that I'm pregnant and likes to lay her head on my baby bump:)

The aspca has a wonderful article on how to prepare the dog for the new addition.

I agree with the comments above.
My two were never around children for 4 years. I brought my first child home and they adored him.
Having them on A schedule helped out. Maybe get him a few special treats and bones?
Be prepared for behavior changes, and be patient with him. One of my dogs litterly hid for 2 months he was so depressed. "Go get the cat" gave his purpose again. (The cat Loves being chased and provokes it)
3 years later Pogo is the protecter of my son.

We have an American pit and a Chesapeake bay both in the house and are used to kids and babies. We are going to bring them a blanket from the baby before we bring her home so they know her smell. Both of ours are very laid back but we are going to watch them. They also have a very set schedule since we both work and have their safe places to go when they are feeling stressed. I think that's very important, make sure the dog has a safe place to go where he won't feel stressed. Both have a dog bed they share and spend a lot of time in on any given day. We don't mess with them when they are in it.

Hi I'm a veterinary technician and some of the things you can do is get a blanket bundle, and have your dog sniff it. If he reacts to it curiously but positively without any negativity, reinforce that good behavior with a treat and praise.

It's also going to be hard, but you'll have to wean your dog off attention.. Not necessarily ignore him, but get him used to the lessened amount of attention your dog will receive when baby comes.

Your dog may go through some behavioral changes like possibly peeing by the baby's crib, but just be patient with him. English bull terriers can be quite good with children and adorably protective of them.
