Help!!!!!! :(

I had my Lil girl on saturday night. Shes 2 days old and breastfeeding. Well last night, she started eating A LOT! She ate for 6 hours STRAIGHT! NO bteaks in between maybe 15 minutes but then shed start screaming for the breast again. I tried soothing her in other ways, Pacifier, rocking, walking, etc but she just cried until i gave her the breast. I even tried supplementing a few oz of formula to get some rest but she still cried for the breast :( her latch is great but i just dont see how she can eat that long with such a tiny tummy and why is she doing it for so long?! :( im so upset and emotionally drained. Plz any advice is appreciated. Im waiting for a lactation consultant to cone in today but would live other opinions.

Corralyn thank you! I talked to a consultant also and she noticed I have a LOT of milk lol I now pump 1 oz from each breast before latching and also using the leaning back position. Danielle I got those drops prescribed today so thank you! :) I never realized how stressful it can be the first week or 2 breastfeeding but im really trying to stick this out this time. Thank you both for the great tips!

That's a good idea too corralynn! I didn't even think of that, I usually have my daughter positioned facing directly towards my breast but that might really help too.

I have really strong letdown as well. One thing you can try, once you get comfortable with nursing positions, is to lean back so baby is a bit above the breast looking down rather than under it looking up. That way they can take in what they want without choking. For me it helps some of the time.

Good! :) and I know my dr didn't ask me, I called to ask because I had no idea about it. Nobody else had ever told me about that.

I know sometimes they don't always poop much at first, but I think they do want them to poop at least once a day. I haven't had a issue with my girl pooping, she goes at least 4 to 8 times a day! But definitely call them. Also WIC told me and the drs office told me too that breastfed babies need a vitamin d supplement. I went to the pharmacy and got baby D drops.

Sometimes on my right side I have a strong letdown. And I do the exact same thing, I just pat her back and make sure her face is turned into a burp cloth to catch the extra milk. Usually I pump a few times on the side after I feed her to help get the extra milk out and to help with the let down. That will usually help. Did you go home from the hospital already? Because you can call the hospital and ask for the lactation consultant. Or if you have WIC, they have a lactation consultant too.

Yes theyre super sore right now. Did you have a strong letdown when your milk came in? My milk came in today and when she feeds, she chokes because its so much milk :/ I have to pick her up and pat her back so she can latch back on and continue. What do I do???

My nipples have been super sensitive and they have some cracks because my daughter wants to eat so much, thankfully they are starting to get used to the breastfeeding and are not as sensitive, unless she smacks them. Lol. Hopefully it gets better for you.

I give my LO massages and colic drops, before we head to bed, it helps him tremendously! He and I get our sleep!

My daughter is strictly breastfed too. She actually hates formula and won't take it. But she's going now thru a growth spur, you just have to keep feeding them sadly. It's probably also because she wants your milk to come in and it hasn't yet. But it should be in by tomorrow or the next day for sure. But pumping is a lifesaver, because then someone else can feed her so you can get some rest. Maybe see if the hospital also has breast milk that was donated, that way you can give her more of what she wants and needs.

Hello ladies! I was having the same problem with my little man. He is just a week old. He is strictly breastfed, no formula. The first day I did have to supplement him with formula with a syringe, due to his blood sugar being low (I had gestational diabetes). But he would go all night in my breast, eating. I  thought at first that he was cluster feeding, but I realized that my little man is colicky,

My little girl is now 2 weeks old. I understand not wanting to give formula, the only time my baby got formula was her first 2 feedings because she had to go to the nursery for observation right after she was taken by c section because she was preemie. But after that my daughter is completely healthy and strictly breast fed. I had to pump and feed her through a syringe at first because she didn't know how to latch on being preemie. Now she can do either breast or bottle but it's always my milk. It can be difficult and frustrating just before a growth spurt because they will want to constantly nurse, even when you know they are not getting anything because you are already empty. What they are doing is telling your body that it needs to start making more milk. I was only making about 2oz every 3 hrs just the other day cause that's what she needed but then we had a night like yours and now when I pump I'm getting more than 4oz. Definitely talk with the lactation nurse and ask any of your questions.

I had the exact same thing happen. I read that it's pretty common, she's going through a growth spurt. It's supposed to happen a few different times in the first couple months. Just hang in there.
With mine, he spent from 2:30am-8am in a cycle of feed, burp, diaper. No sleep for me in that whole time. Luckily, the next night was a lot better, and last night I actually got 2 blocks of 4 hours each where he was sleeping. He's 7 days today.
