Stopping contractions... Why???

So I had went into L&D and was put on the monitor for my baby and contractions... Turns out I was having contractions every 5 minutes and they were not painful at all, they were just uncomfortable... My nurse ended up Giving me a shot to stop my contraction

BUT WHY?? I am 36w+3d

My doctor said you have to be atleast 37 weeks before they won't stop contractions, but ideally baby wouldn't come before 39 weeks

I don't know.. at my 36 week appt a few days ago my doc said if I start getting contractions he wouldn't stop them just let me continue cuz it's just a week away from being full term. Unless since they were not painful maybe they were not gonna help u dialate. But I'm not sure
