It depends on the hospital/doctor...My coworkers told me the one hospital in town waits to 20 weeks and I couldn't wait...I was too anxious so I changed my appointment to the other hospital in town which I really like...they normally do an 8 weeks ultrasound but I scheduled late so mine was 10 weeks:)

The "normal" scan is around 19 weeks here I think. But if you want to find out if your baby may have down Syndrom or something similar you need a scan done in between 11 and 13. That's the only time this translucent test or whatever it's called can be done.
Because I have to pay for my ultrasounds anyway, I can asked my doc for a referal when ever I want. So talk to your doc that you don't wanna wait until 20 weeks.

I think it depends on your doctor because I've already had my first sonogram and heard my baby's heart beat at 8+4 weeks and I will have my second sonogram next Thursday at 12+4 weeks.. And I'm scheduled again at 16+4 weeks and so on.. I'd see if you could be seen every month as I am if you'd prefer.  I don't think I'd be able to wait that long I'm too impatient lol.

Hmmm i guess it depends on the doctor but from my experience, Ive always had a first ultrasound before 12 weeks just so they can make sure baby is developing fine and everything looks good inside. Seems like a really long time to wait for one.
