stomach tightening

all night my stomach was tightening everyone half hour (ish) but there was no was pain , could this still be contractions?

In my labor class, she was telling us there's basically 2 kinds of contractuons, those that feel like menstrual cramps to prepare the body and those that feel like they go from the top of your stomach to the bottom,  which move the baby down.

Sounds like a contraction. I think it feels like a balloon inside my uterus being slowly blown up the fuller it gets the more it hurts. When the balloon deflates the pain goes away and the contraction is over.
