Hi there. I think you are confusing he term god parent. God parents are strictly a religious designation and what it means is that these are important people that will be present during your child's religious journey. It has nothing to do with guardianship should anything happen to you. It doesn't stand as a will or anything like that. I believe parents of the deceased become the first in line to take over guardianship should something happen to both a child's mother and father. Siblings are after that. This is run by the state unless you have a will designating specific people as the guardian. You will want to talk to anyone that you put in this position and make sure they agree to it. I'm in my sister's will as the guardian of her child should something happen and she mine. It's a legal document that is binding. without it, they'd go to my living parent, my dad. And then HE could decide where they ultimately go. I wanted to have a say myself so have a will.
